Want a setting below 50

Sal_DW

I like the house cold at night.

50 degrees is too warm. Why can’t we set it below 50?

so now we just turn it off at night manually, but that’s not ideal for several reasons.
eg if it’s a really cold night, it is quite cold in the morning. And the bother of doing it manually twice a day just doesn’t seem right with an automatic thermostat.
ok so -

1.  Will we ever be able to set it below 50?

2.  If not, can we program it to go off and come back on again at given times?

Hi Sal_DW,

Thank you for reaching out and we're sorry for the delay.

You can set your temperature down to 5 by using the lock feature. When you lock your thermostat with the Nest or Home app, the smallest temperature range is 5º F (for example, 70-75º F). There is no minimum temperature range if you set the lock directly from the Nest thermostat. So if you want to set a smaller range or lock the thermostat to a single temperature you'll need to set the lock on the thermostat itself.

Check this link to know more.

Best regards,

Ryan

Hi Ryan,

I think there is a misunderstanding about my question.  It's not about locking, or ranges.
I want to set the temperature to 40 or 45 degrees .
When I turn the dial of  the thermostat, it only goes down to 50 degrees.  When I set the schedule on the web interface, I can set it down to 50.  When I set the temperature on the app, it goes down to 50.
I can't set it to 45 degrees.
why not?

Above, you said you can "set your temperature down to 5 " -

- Maybe you're thinking C?  Actually, 5C would be nice, but you don't allow a setpoint below 9C

Hi Sal_DW,

Thanks for your response and for giving out more details on your post.

Yes, you cannot set it to a regular temperature below 50 but you can set a Safety Temp for you to go lower. Check out this link for a complete guide on how you can set your Safety Temp on your thermostat.

Also, you can turn it off or manage your Safety Temp remotely using the app.

Best regards,

Ryan

I want to set the thermostat heating setpoint to 45 F. Why can’t I ?
Can you please change that 50F minimum?

Hi Sal_DW,

Thanks for your reply.

We don't have an option to set the temperature below 50 degrees as this might not be comfortable and not suitable for your HVAC unit to hold.

We'll take this as feedback as we are always improving and making products even more useful.

Best regards,

Ryan

ok, responding to your 2 points:

a)  product development rule #1:  LISTEN TO YOUR USERS

Don't tell me what's comfortable.

I'm telling you what's comfortable, and it's below 50F

and b) the mercury thermostat that I replaced with my Nest went below 50F, so our old furnace can handle it.

Please remove the 50F limit
