Want to tell Nest E to lower temperature it reads

RetMilOfcrFL

The thermostat sits in the central hallway.
It reads the house temperature as 82F.  That is accurate for that specific location in the hallway.
However, the house temperature other than at the hallway is 75F.
Can I tell Nest Thermostat E to read the ambient temperature as 5 degrees F lower than what it shows?
I cannot change the location of the thermostat to where it would read the actual house temperature.
I'm hoping there is a feature where I can adjust its temperature sensor to read differently.

I don't believe there is a way to adjust the thermostat calibration or swing temperatures.  However, what you could do is purchase a temperature sensor and put it in the room with the lower temperature and then you can tell the nest thermostat to use that particular temperature sensor for controlling your heating and cooling units.  It will also use the remote temperature sensors readings on your thermostat.

My solution to buy and use the temperature sensor package works.
That said, should the NEST thermostat itself be made to accept a permanent offset such as when cooling mode (or dual mode) such that the location of the thermostat is know to misread the house temperature?
That is my problem, that the particular location of the thermostat is not accurate for comfort.
When I place the sensor in the coolest room in my house, then tell the NEST to use that sensor, things are fine and A/C system is accurate and life is wonderful.  We shall see what happens during a cold front here in south Florida when I need to call upon the heating system, though this time of year, that is unlikely.
I don't need any further guidance on this problem, and I figured out one way to solve the issue.

Hey RetMilOfcrFL,

I'm glad to hear that those sensors worked out for you! When the Nest thermostat is in one location of the home that is within the range of it's set temperature, it has difficulty knowing if another part of the house is too hot or cold without the use of other sensors.

In the meantime, I'll go ahead and lock this thread in 24 hours. If you run into any more issues in the future, please feel free to create a new thread.

Best regards,

Jeran

Just on a curiosity and to be clear RetMilOfctFL, you had already figured out that the temperature sensors would achieve what you wanted to as a workaround before I posted the same workaround?

I have advised Google to add to the NEST software an offset adjustment to allow more than just "in sunlight" adjustment, for places where the location of the thermostat is problematic.
That said, my personal solution of using a remote temperature sensor is the most flexible for my needs and that of many users, along with the software adjustment to tell NEST to govern itself using the remote sensor.
That software feature is excellent, though costly.
