@Jonathan9, thanks for posting. If your 8-year-old Nest Thermostat doesn't have the option to disable preheating in the settings, it's possible that this feature is not available on older models. Instead of disabling preheating entirely, you can adjust the temperature setting during the preheating period to a lower temperature closer to your desired scheduled temperature. This way, the thermostat will still turn on the heating but at a lower level, reducing the amount of energy used for preheating. If your Nest Thermostat supports custom scheduling, you can create a schedule that aligns with your desired heating times without including the preheating period. By setting the desired temperature for the scheduled time period and avoiding any additional preheating time, you can have more control over when the heating comes on. The Nest Thermostat's "Home/Away Assist" feature uses occupancy detection to adjust the temperature based on your presence. You can enable this feature and set it to "Eco" or a lower temperature when you're away from home. This way, the thermostat will reduce energy usage when you're not there, and when you return, it will start heating according to your scheduled time.
