Looking to replace this with a Nest and the E+W2 jump and the extra X1 wire are my hold up. What do I do with them?

Hi Hillwack,

Thanks for posting in the Google Nest Community forum. I'm sorry for the delay. I'd like to take a closer look at it to ensure the compatibility and wiring configuration of your system to the Nest Thermostats. Please take another photo of your thermostat wiring and the wires connected to your system's control board. Ensure that the labels of the wires are visible.

Best,

Jenelyn

Hey Hillwack,

Thanks for providing the information above. It looks like you have a conventional system. It is compatible with the Nest Thermostats.

You can follow these wiring guides:

  • Y1 -  Yellow (Cooling)
  • W1 - White (Heating)
  • G - Green (Fan)
  • C - Brown (Common)
  • RC/RH - Red (Power)

For Nest Thermostat E:

  • Y1 - Yellow (Cooling)
  • W1 - White (Heating)
  • G - Green (Fan)
  • C - Brown (Common)
  • R - Red (Power)

For Nest Thermostat 2020:

  • Y - Yellow (Cooling)
  • W - White (Heating)
  • G - Green (Fan)
  • C - Brown (Common)
  • R - Red (Power)

Please feel free to let us know if you still have questions in mind.

Regards,

Jenelyn

What about the X1 that goes to the common side of the relay that is activated by the heat pump (B)?

Hi there,

I'm sorry for the confusion. Please disregard my first response. You have a heat pump system and it's compatible as well with any Nest Thermostats. Your X1 wire is common, and your B wire is your reversing valve.

Please check out this wiring guide:

For Nest Learning Thermostat:

  • Y1 -  Yellow (Cooling)
  • W1 - White (Heating)
  • G - Green (Fan)
  • C - Brown (Common)
  • OB - Blue (Heat pump)
  • RC/RH - Red (Power)

For Nest Thermostat E:

  • Y1 - Yellow (Cooling)
  • W1 - White (Heating)
  • G - Green (Fan)
  • C - Brown (Common)
  • *OB - Blue ( Heat pump)
  • R - Red (Power)

For Nest Thermostat 2020:

  • Y - Yellow (Cooling)
  • W - White (Heating)
  • G - Green (Fan)
  • C - Brown (Common)
  • * - Blue (Heat pump)
  • R - Red (Power)

Let me know if you have further questions.

Thanks,

Jenelyn
