Why can't two Red wires be connected to the R connector (Nest Non Learning)?

I have a thermostat that has the connectors as in this picture
This is the relevant manual page showing the  connectors
As far as I understand a Non learning thermostat has these connectors
I should be OK if I could connect two wires to the R terminal of the Nest Thermostat
Other than physical restrictions are there any other reasons why I can't connect two wires to that terminal ?

I am considering soldering the two wires together and then have only one of them inserted in the R connector
Would that be OK ? If not, why?

Hi Mini4Me,

Thanks for checking it with us. It looks like you have a separate power wire for your heating and air conditioning system. These are not jumper wires, and you can insert the Rc wire into the Rc connector and the Rh wire into the Rh connector in the Nest Learning Thermostat.

Nest thermostat connectors are built so that only one wire can be inserted into each connector. Putting more than one wire into a Nest thermostat connector can damage your system and your thermostat.

Please feel free to let us know if you have further questions.

Best,

Jenelyn
