Wifi Connectivity Options

Hello,

Regarding the installation of the Nest Thermostats in general, I know that an internet connection is typically required in order to set up the device via your phone. However, do all of the Nests come with the option to program the unit locally on the unit - rather than using a wifi connection - in order to see if it can control the HVAC? Subsequently, if a Nest is installed an not connected to the wifi - can the unit still be controlled over bluetooth? We are having these installed in a multi-unit building and need to have the commission the A/C controls in tested in each room (via the Nest) but will NOT have wifi available until after the Nests are installed. That's why we need to know if they can be programmed and used to control the A/C without wifi available.

Thanks,

Hello AL10,

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your inquiry. I'd love to help.

You can program and control the Nest Thermostats even without a Wi-Fi connection. but it depends on how they're set up. Here's how it goes:

  • Skip the Nest App and the Internet Connection prompt for the Nest Learning Thermostat or Nest Thermostat E setup so you can configure only the system.
  • For the Nest Thermostat 2020 version. It must be added to the Google Home app in order to be configured with the system. To bypass it without a Wi-Fi connection, proceed with the initial prompts until you've reached the Wi-Fi connection part and skip it by closing the app; then, restart the thermostat by taking out its batteries and plugging them back in.

Please us know if you have more questions.

Best,

Mark

Hi there,

I'm checking back in. Were you able to do the steps above? I'd be glad to hear from you — I'd like to make sure everything is working.

Mark
