Hi, a couple of questions really 🙂
1) The rather simplistic compatibility checker says either the Learning or 'E' thermost should be compatible (yet the 'E' is allegedly discontinued??). The install videos all seem to show wired thermostat replacement - my Digistat thermostat connects by radio to the boiler, no wires at all. If this Nest *replaces* my current Digistat, how is it going to communicate with my boiler? Is the Digistat's RF protocol just an open standard that the Nest Thermostats support?
2) My reason for looking at a smart system, is that I want to independently programme different rooms to heat at different *times*. Does Nest let me do this? Turn some rooms 100% off, others come on later afternoon, others on through the day? Like many now working from home, I now have more complex, and more expensive, heating requirements.

Thank you for your questions @ipanel . Both the 3rd generation and the Google Nest E are still available on our website. Could you let me know where you saw it was discontinued?
As for connecting to the system. You can check out this video to see how it would go, this may be the video you saw. The Heat Link needs to be wired to the boiler and the thermostat will connect to it wirelessly. It does not support other connection protocols. If you have no wires from your boiler and you do wish to install it you should first check with the boiler manufacturers if a wired connection is possible as it may only be able to connect over their RF protocol, and may be incompatible.
As for how the thermostat would work with a zoned system you can read more about it here. In short you would need a zone valve for each zone and a separate thermostat connected to each of those zone valves to control them.
