Wiring compatiability

dustinp

I was just on the Nest online wire compatibility checker.

My current Braeburn 3200 thermostat runs my geothermal heat pump for both heating and cooling. I got a Nest Model G4CVZ to replace it, but when I check the online wire compatibility checker it says the Nest isn't compatible with my wiring. My thermostat uses the R,O,B,C, Y1,Y2,W2,G, and L.

Does anyone know if there is another model that is compatible with this wiring?

Thanks!Braeburn thermostat wiringBraeburn thermostat wiring

None of the Nest thermostats are compatible with your system.

Your system uses both a B and an O wire at the same time and Google Nest doesn't support that feature.

Thanks for the quick reply. I guess I will have to return this one.

Is anyone aware of another brand that may be compatible with my wiring noted above?

Thanks again!

Hey folks,

Thanks for your response, Patrick_Caezza.

dustinp, thanks for posting on the Google Nest Community. I'm afraid we can only speak in behalf of our Nest thermostats. You may try reaching out to Braeburn support to know more about what smart thermostats work with your system. However, you may also check out any local pro for assistance as you have both an O wire and a B wires.

Thanks.

I was hoping someone on this forum may have encountered a similar situation, and could offer guidance on how they solved the issue, but it sounds like discussion of any solution that does no incorporate a Nest thermostat isn't welcome here, so I may need to engage a local pro to see if there are other potential solutions. Anyone in the market for a new unopened factory seal charcoal Nest G4VCZ thermostat??

Hey dustinp,

You're welcome and I understand how you feel. As much as we'd also provide some recommendations, your system might be put to risk and we don't want that to happen. It's still best to have a local pro check on it.

I talked with the installer of our geothermal heat pump today, and he said that a toggle switch could be installed on the heat pump to toggle between the heating and cooling modes, eliminating the need for both the O&B wires to used on the Nest thermostat, which seemed to be the incompatibility issue. That would then require you then to manually switch it over from heating to cooling mode or vice versa using the toggle switch, from one season to the next, which is what we currently do, using a switch on the Braeburn thermostats control panel. He said he could install the toggle switch for me, so we'll see how things work once that is done.

Hopefully this explanation will help someone else who may come up against the same issue with their Nest thermostat sometime in the future.
