Wiring help - Middle East

Hi, I would like some help in wiring a google Nest Thermostat. So I live in Saudi Arabia where our summers heat reaches north of 120 F. Most houses have two AC units and no furnaces with two separate thermostats. Anyway, I wanted to switch out one of the thermostats to the google nest one. I went through the compatibility tool and apparently, only the nest learning thermostat is compatible. However, I already ordered the non-learning mirror finish one and would like to make it work if possible. This is the wiring diagram that I have.

Y2, W2, G, W, C, Y, Rc. I think the problem is Y2, there is no spot for Y2 in the google thermostat, I did read in this forum somewhere that I can place it at the OB spot. Please help!

Hi  Kaladin,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community.

We're glad to hear you're interested in our Nest Learning Thermostat. While it isn't officially launched in Saudi Arabia, your HVAC system may or may not work with Nest. Also, if you encounter any issues with the device, warranty coverage is limited to supported regions.

Based on the photo you sent us, it can be wired to the Nest Thermostat 2020 a heat pump. To confirm, may we ask for the make and model of your HVAC?

In addition to this, can you also send a photo of your HVAC wiring?

Best,

Renz

Hi Renz,

thanks for your response. The unit is actually just a VAC without Heat. The summers here get too hot so the winters are mild so we don’t need central heating. The unit is a Carrier brand, it’s on the roof so I can’t get to it. I did ask one of the maintenance techs to get a picture for me the next time they’re up there. I am thinking of getting it for cooling only.

Hey folks,

I'm chiming in to make sure everything is covered here.

Thanks for looking into this, Renz.

@Kaladin, we love to see you post here all the way from Saudi Arabia! In addition to what was shared above, it might be a hit-or-miss as your thermostat has the standard terminals, but we can't distinguish its configuration as you don't have a heating system. Contacting and consulting with an HVAC technician who has knowledge of the Nest Thermostats would help to see if the wires can be modified.

Let us know if you have more questions.

Regards,
Mark
