compatibility check

I was advised to check for compatibility to see if my current setup will work with a nest.  Everything looks clear except I have a few extra wires that I didn't see on the compatibility test.  Please advise,

Is this a Heat Pump system or regular AC with gas furnace?

The orange wire could be for 2nd stage of heat, or it could be the O/B wire to activate a heat pump outdoor unit reversing valve during heat cycle.

So does your outdoor unit run when you heat the house or do you have furnace with 2 stages of heating?

The wires on the left are not used by the Nest. They are for proprietary communicating thermostat functions.

I have a heat pump that uses electricity and when it gets real cold switches to propane.

OK then wire it up like this

Orange to OB*

Red to RC

Blue to C

White to W1

Yellow to Y1

Green to G

The other wires not needed just tape them up dont let them touch tho.

Then set it up as a Heat Pump and tell it W1 is aux heat.

Then you have to set the Heat Pump balance settings to choose how it uses the Aux heat efficiently.

Or you can turn off the balance and pick a fixed outdoor temp that it will no longer try to run the outdoor heat pump and only use the propane heating.
