I have checked the wiring and reset the thermostat. There has been no work done on the electrical or the HVAC unit.

An E code on your Nest thermostat is typically caused by miswiring the thermostat during installation.They can also be caused by a worn part on the system’s control board which will require service by a professional.
What type of Nest thermostat is this? Also, have you tried checking on your thermostat's G wire? If unsure on what to check, please follow the troubleshooting guide here: https://bit.ly/39m6x2g
