hello. I just had my thermostats upgraded to a nest learning 3rd gen thermostat.  the hvac guy said they work will only 2 wires. however I noticed it was too low power to do any smart home functions.  so I disconnected them, charged them for 3 hours and reinstalled them.  got to use the app for one night then too low power again. is that normal?

2nd. I ve noticed that the yellow call for heat light on my taco controller next to my boiler keeps flashing now.  it goes solid when actually calling or heat from the thermostat, but other wise it goes to flashing.  I installed my old thermostat and it didn't do that.   is this not compatible?

ive also noticed my house really warm(reason for investigation), 76 when I have it set to 70. it hasn't been below 72 for 24 hours and yet the app said it called for heat for 3 hours.

Hi @badluckcheerful!

Thanks for posting in the community.
I’m sorry for the inconvenience that this Nest Thermostat Learning 3rd generation may cause to you. I understand you just installed the Nest thermostat, but it was too low power. You charged it, but a couple of hours later the power was too low again. You are also having some strange behavior with the heating.

Upon checking here the information, it seems that some systems are not compatible with our thermostat. As a first step, you should check the compatibility of your HVAC system using the next website: Thermostat Compatibility.

If it is compatible, you can follow the next steps:

  1. Turn off power to your system at the fuse box or system switch. This will help prevent damage to your system and help keep you safe.
  2. Pull off the Nest thermostat display.
  3. Check that all connectors that have wires are down.
  4. If needed, re-insert wires so that the connector button stays fully pressed down. If the button isn’t down, your Nest thermostat won’t know there’s a wire in the connector.
  5. You may need to re-strip and straighten the wire ends so that they can be fully inserted into the Nest base’s connectors.

Please check the following articles for further information: Learn about the common or C wire and Nest Power Connector.

Tell me how it goes.

Regards,

Daniel.
