red light blinks, turns off, changes to green, starts heater, red light blinks, repeat....

heat pump won't stay on because the thermostat keeps turning itself off, ostensibly to charge, but turns on after only a minute or less, turns on the heat, then the thermostat turns itself off and the heat goes off. This has happened repeatedly this morning. Prior to this, I couldn't reconnect to the wifi despite many attempts. A friend advised me to take it off the base for a minute and then try to connect again. It still wouldn't reconnect but ran the heater fine until this morning. I think I just need a replacement thermostat (this was installed with a new HVAC system in May (6 months ago) and worked fine until I turned off the HVAC for several weeks because the weather was so perfect).

Hi rparker52,

Thanks for reaching out ― let's see what's going on.

Give these steps a try:

  1. Check your air filter, as a clogged filter may cause a similar symptom.
  2. If the air filter is dirty and needs to be changed, I recommend replacing the air filter and let us know if the issue continues after you change the filter.

Keep us posted.

Best,
Mel

I did that. I finally spoke to a google nest tech person who told me to plug the thermostat into a usb charger and charge for an hour. I did that and the thermostat worked fine until this morning when it was, again, out of power. An installer is coming tomorrow to make sure sufficient power is getting to the thermostat. In addition, if that person can't get the thermostat to reconnect to the wifi (it hasn't connected since Sept or Aug), I'll have them provide me with a replacement. Thanks for your response.
