Adding Wifi point leads to black screen

Same problem as in this closed, unresolved thread: https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Nest-Wifi/Nest-Wifi-Router-Setup-Google-Home-Screen-goes-Blan...

I open the Home App on iOS to add my wifi point. When I go to add devices it sees the device (with the correct setup id) but when I click next I get a totally blank (gray/black) screen with no indication of success or failure.

The wifi point is already pulsing blue (ready for setup) so hard reset by the button did nothing.

Wifi point was bought on Amazon in the US.

iOS 15.1

Google Home App v2.47.111
