Can I use a Nest Wifi Router as a temporary point?

Hi, I wonder if someone could help. I've struggled to find an answer. Excuse my lack of knowledge here, what i'm asking may sound really simple.

I currently use EE mobile broadband as fibre is not currently available where I live, but will be soon though. I have a Google Nest Wifi Router plugged into my mobile broadband modem. Then I have 2 points around the house. It works well.

I've recently had a garden office built, to extend the wifi to the garden I had planned on buying another point.  However the builders have added a Ethernet port for when fibre is available - hopefully in the next couple of months.

I have two questions;

1. If I buy a router now rather than just a point can the router act as a point?

2. When fibre is available and we have it, will i then be able to just connect the router into the ethernet port with out the need for another modem?

Thanks in advance.

Update - Resolved!

The way I managed to get this to work was by resetting the the new router by holding down the button on the bottom for 10 seconds. Wait till the light starts to pulse..this took maybe 5 minutes. I then used an Ethernet cable and plugged it into the existing router.

Then went through the set up process in the home app to adda new device, it recognised the router, I followed the steps and set it up as a Router but it automatically finished the set up as a point..it's now working as a point.

Thanks

Yes you can setup the router as a point.

I'm not sure about your 2nd query tho with the ethernet cable.

Thanks, any idea how? When adding it via the app it detects it as a router and fails.

Thanks

In the home app go to the plus symbol at the top left, select Setup device > New Device > Select your home and tap Next

If it finds your router ignore that and continue. It should ask what you want to setup. Select WiFi > Nest Wifi Point. You might need to enter setup code manually.

Unfortunately that doesn't work, There is a set up different device option, I then select set up a nest point but it just detects the router again, if i select the router it fails, if I select a different device i just loop round again.

Just to update this, I still cant set it up. I've connected it to the other router in the hope that would work but it's no different. does anyone have any other suggestions? Thank you

I can find the router, then the options are to set up router (which fails) or set up a different device. If this is selected I can the select a point, but then it just finds the router again. So I’m stuck in a loop. Desperately need to get this sorted but just can't seem to find a way? Thanks
