Can the google nest wifi router connect directly to the Fibre ONT without a modem between?

I'm looking at purchasing a nest wifi system, but before I do just want to make sure it can be installed the way I have in mind.

 
Nest wifi router directly to ONT without additional modem would be ideal, any confirmation of this would be appreciated

Hi,

We just had a Frontier modem/Router installed for internet only and it came with an ONT device. A few hours after install, the modem failed - another story... but I tried connecting our Google WiFi directly into the ONT.

Did not work. However, I could plug an ethernet cable from my desktop into the ONT and it did work - full internet access.
