Cannot add a 3rd Nest router to my home as an additional wifi point

Hello! I have a Nest router, and a 2nd router as a wifi point running just fine in my Home. I bought a 3rd Nest router to extend coverage and I cannot connect it to my existing Home.

When I try to set up the new router (as a point) using Google Home, it takes me all the way through the setup process, recognizes the device, lets me scan the QR code in, and asks me if I want to join setup:xx.ybd - which is the network printed on the bottom of the new router. It then tells me it  "cannot join setup:xxx.ybd" ........

It is either not recognizing my existing wifi Home for some reason, and/or not allowing itself to be recognized as an additional "point" rather than a router. Very very very frustrating. I've reset everything, I already do have a 2nd router setup, I really don't know what else to try.  Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!!!!

Thanks. All my units were purchased from Amazon Japan, where Iive so that shouldn’t be the issue. The model numbers are all model H2D. I’m using the Google Home app on my iphone 11pro, which I also used when I set up the original two router setup (the two routers came together from Amazon).

I will try the Ethernet route - if I do that should I, in theory, then be able to use it again wirelessly? Anyway I’ll give that a try and report back to the community if it works.  Thanks for your response!! 🙂

Try setting it up while it's connected by ethernet cable to the primary/ master point?

Or try this alternative way:

Or try from a different device (Android, iOS, iPadOS) with the Google Home app, using the same Google account of course.

One more thing to consider is that mixing Wifi devices made for different regions/ countries, does not work because of differences in Wifi regulations. So, combining EU units with US units, will not work.

Yes, forgot to mention that you can unplug the cable and place it where you want it after it's successfully added and updated. 🙂

I've heard about people getting different regions from places like Amazon and Ebay before. It can be checked by going to following address in a web browser:

If you can't add it to existing network, try to set it up as a new Google Home home network. Then go to that address and check what it says. My two pucks says "nordic". 🙂
