Hello there.
im trying to set the IPs of my extra access points to be static, because I’ve some dns rules for internet filtering.
I can reserve IPs for connected devices using the Google home app, but the access points themselves do not appear in that list to be reserved.
is there a way workaround to keep them in the same IPs?
many thanks

Hello @Tiago
It is not possible to set the IP address for secondary access points manually. However, in the four years I've been running my Google WiFi system, the points have had the same IP addresses they were originally assigned. So, it's unlikely your will change as long as they are continuously powered on and part of your network.

Yeah, mine changed already after a reset.
I think it's a bit sad we can't force it to an IP, but not the worst thing for my situation, as I don't think the node itself will suffer from have filtered dns.

A power cycle shouldn't cause it to get a new IP, but a factory reset (and subsequent setup) quite likely would. It shouldn't have a problem with filtered DNS, though it may skip what you have configured and go straight to Google's DNS servers for what it does need (it has to connect to Google's services for monitoring and management).

Hi, Tiago.
I just wanted to follow up real fast and see if MichaelP's suggestions and info helped you sort this out. If you're still needing some support, please let me know.
Thanks!

Hi, everyone.
As we haven't had any activity here recently I'm going to go ahead and close the thread. If you have more to add, feel free to start a new discussion.
