Degrading connection from Google WiFi

Sudden issue with Google WiFi. Have been using the mesh setup for years with FiOS WiFi, never a problem. I’ve got FiOS coming in at 954mbps down and suddenly this week I’m getting 154mbps from Google WiFi mesh with main point connecting to Verizon via Ethernet and 3 satellites. Maybe coincidentally this happened around the same time as I did a factory reset on my chromecast 2nd gen before google announced the known issue on that. Weirdly after that I had to factory reset and reinstall my mesh network.

Have spent 2 half days on the phone with google support did a bunch of resets, next I swapped out Verizon router, then changed DNS to 8.8.8.8, then cycled every device as instructed and nothing worked. The tech support people are very nice but haven’t been able to fix it. I’ve had this setup for maybe 10 years without a problem. Now it’s pitiful.

Any suggestions? Help!

Hi @TheBomze,

Thank you for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing slow internet, even after contacting support. I'm happy to assist you.

To figure out why this is happening, please provide the information requested below:

  • How often does this issue occur? Does this happen continuously or intermittently?
  • What's your approximate home or apartment's lot area in square feet?
  • What access points are affected?
  • Were there any recent changes in your network setup?
  • How many devices actively use the internet at once?
  • Did you change your Internet Service Provider (ISP)?
  • Do you use a modem and router combo provided by your ISP, or just a modem?
  • Is there a switch located on the network?
  • Have you tried to run a speed test while connected directly to the modem?

Please keep me posted. I'll be waiting for your response.

Regards,

Anders
