Ethernet Backhauling

Hi

I am rebuilding a network that had all NEST pro devices. I wanted to set it up according to a diagram posted by another contributor here named Olavrb. In his diagram he shows a bridged modem with ethernet cable going into the WAN port on the main NEST Pro. Then another ethernet cable from the LAN port of the main NEST into an unmanaged Ethernet switch. Finally he shows the additional NEST pros (that will get sprinkled around floors via their wired ethernet backhaul) with their WAN ports plugged into the unmanaged switch. Shouldn't these be getting connected to the ethernet switch via their LAN ports for this standard setup?

Thanks in advance

No, You have to remember that all of these Wi-Fi Pros are the same device so, as far as they're concerned the globe port will be what they're using for an outside/gateway connection and the LAN port is what they will give a connection to, so, if you're only using them as a wireless access point then it needs to be the globe port.

Hello @dstevenson

The primary/router Nest WiFi Pro unit is the only one that is special here. It's WAN port should connect to the ISP equipment. But, the secondary/point units are in bridge mode, so both of their Ethernet ports are connected to the same (virtual) switch internally in that mode. You can use either port to connect to an upstream wired network for backhaul purposes. I do like to be consistent about it, though – pick one and always use that one.
