Forcing a device to connect to base router and not a node

My Quest2 hates a mesh network. Is there a way I can force it to use the signal from the base router and ignore the (closer) node?
I have makeshift solutions:
- I can use it closer to the main router (in another room), or
- unplug the node
but I would rather fix it in the settings and not have to do either of these if that's possible. Anyone know how/if it's possible?

Hello @robeywan

WiFi client devices decide which access point to connect to. It sounds like your Quest 2 is connecting to the nearest access point since that provides the strongest signal. Normally, this is what you want, though. I'm not sure why this would cause a problem for your Quest 2 device unless that access point has a weak mesh connection back to the primary Nest WiFi Router unit. What does a mesh quality test show in the Google Home app? If it isn't showing "great" for that mesh secondary, you might try moving that access point closer to the primary to improve that connection.

That said, some homes don't need the coverage expansion that a mesh network provides. You may find your performance is better without the Nest WiFi Point. If so, you could just do a factory reset on it and sell it (and if you like having a smart speaker, buy a little Nest Mini to replace it).

Everything is working as it should, it's just that the Quest2 struggles over mesh. If I disconnect the node, it'll connect fine to the main router but then I lose devices in other rooms (Plex, etc).
I was just wondering if there was a way to instruct the Quest to connect to the main router and not the node even if it's not the stronger signal.
thanks tho

Hello everyone,

@MichaelP, I appreciate the help.

@robeywan, thanks for reaching out. Please leave your Nest Wifi point unplugged and disconnect most of your devices. Set a static IP address for your Quest 2 so it will remain connected to your router. Once done, you can get your point plugged back in and your other devices connected back to your network.

Let me know if this helps.

Best,
Lovely
