Google Mesh Intermittent Signal / Network stalls/drops every 10 min or so

I have a Google Nest Wi-Fi router with 6 Wi-Fi points. Three are the older Google Wi-Fi pucks and 3 are the newer Google Nest Wi-Fi points. It may seem like a lot, but I have a larger home.  There is no signal interference.

My home is wired to where I have Ethernet running through the walls to most rooms. The Google pucks are connected to the router via Cat 6 Ethernet.

My current setup has been working well for >2 years and then the weekend before last I began having constant connectivity issues. Historically, we have great interrupted signals to all 55 devices on our network. I DID NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES TO MY NETWORK AT ALL BEFORE I STARTED EXPERIENCING ISSUES. Now, we cannot watch any streaming program without the network momentarily dropping every 5-10 minutes or so. Every device (cell phones, work and home pcs, and 8 separate Google assistants) on the network is impacted. Again, we have not changed the network setup or added devices before the network started experiencing issues.

My cable provider has come to my home 2x. They provided a new modem, and they have checked every aspect of the connection on their end to ensure everything is working and nothing was fried in a storm. I actually bought a new Google Nest router and replaced a couple of points. I also replaced a good number of Ethernet cables. None of that has worked to resolve the issue.

I have probably spent over 20 hours on this in two weeks. I have probably rebooted the modem a few dozen times. I have factory restarted my Google router and points no less than a dozen times.  Can’t watch a show without interruption and cannot work effectively from home. It’s super frustrating and I don’t know how to resolve it to get it back to how it worked two weeks ago.

I am considered returning the new Google equipment and going with a new mesh system, BUT I want to see if this community might be able to help me first. Thanks in advance!

there is another topic called Unnamed Offline devices on Nest WiFi. lot of people, including me, have been having problems for awhile now. you can check that one out your problem may or may not be related.

You just described my issue exactly. Mine crept up a week ago, fixed itself, and now the last two days is exactly what's happening to you: complete dropoffs on all devices every 5-10 minutes. This isn't the first time this has happened in the 2.5 years I've had the setup and each time nothing has changed about my network configuration except new firmware pushes to my router. I have one primary wired access point, another wired point in bridge mode, and five mesh points. Also pushing 50 devices on the network. Running firmware 14150.43.80.

My advice? Abandon Google wifi, it's been plagued with issues since I've had it. Planning to scrap my entire system in favor of Ubiquiti this week. At least then I'll be able to diagnose and troubleshoot any issues that come up, something the Google Home app is woefully awful at.

Same problem here, I was going to do what you did, you saved me alot of time. I'm going to call google support just to complain to fix this problem and see if they have any ideas. Good luck. I bought a router and have my TV connected with ethernet cable so I don't have drop outs when watching TV. But my phone and other devices go offline when mesh goes offline.

Same thing here. Google wi-fi system with 3 pucks worked perfectly fine for about 4 years, then suddenly I started getting terrible latency in online games about a couple weeks ago. I found this thread with users complaining about a similar issue that was addressed and patched recently: https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Nest-Wifi/Continuous-losing-connection-for-Google-Wifi/td-p/7...

Sure enough, I'm on the latest version that's mentioned by the support person in that thread. I'm guessing the latest patch has a bug.

Hey, brian3snip.

Did you have the latest firmware update on your device before or after issues started? Are you able to double check the software version on you WiFi router through the Home app and let me know what it says there?

Thanks.

Hi Jeff,

The version I have is 14150.43.80. It's hard to say whether the problem definitely started occurring before or after the latest version was applied, but when I checked the version after the problem started it was the same version as I currently have.

A couple days ago, the problem happened multiple times in the same day so I tried a factory reset and set everything up from scratch. Since then, I haven't had the problem recur. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for the info, brian3snip.

You're on the latest firmware and it's possible it installed when you did the factory reset. Let's keep an eye on it for the next little while and ensure we don't have an issue lingering.

Thanks!

Thanks Jeff. I'm certain that the firmware version was the same before and after the factory reset. Regardless, I will post back here if the problem recurs.

Perfect. That's great, brian3snip.

I'll go ahead and close up the thread for now, but if anything goes wrong or if you need anything else going forward, please feel free to open up a new discussion.

Thanks!
