Google Nest Pro vs Previous Versions

I have gained no advantages by upgarding from Google Nest WiFi to Google Nest Pro WiFi. In fact, my download speed has dropped from 820 MBPS to 620 MBPS. I have just changed my xfinity Gateway modem (thinking that might have been the problem), and the modem on its own displays download speeds above 900 MBPS. After I changed the setting to bridge mode and connected the Google Nest Pro WiFi with three additiuonal points, my speed has dropped to 620 MBPS. I have wider coverage with less download speeds. I was better off with the previous version Google Nest WiFi.

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry for this experience. 

Please make sure that your Google Nest Wifi Pro devices are using the latest firmware version. Check that your Ethernet cable is undamaged and securely connected to your modem and Google Nest Wifi Pro. You may also try the following steps below:

  • Ensure that there is minimal to no interference (concrete, bulletproof glass, metal, mirror, etc.) and that the Wifi points are no more than two rooms apart.
  • Change your DNS servers to 8.8.8.8 on your primary servers and 8.8.4.4 on your secondary servers.
  • Unplug the power from your modem and Google Nest Wifi devices for 2 minutes.
  • If you're using a modem/router combo, set it to bridge mode to avoid double NAT issues.
  • If the issue persists, try factory resetting your network. Take note that this will remove all network data.

I am surprised and impressed that you are checking to see ...

  • The Google Nest WiFi Pro is a replacement for Google Nest WiFi that was operating for over 2-years at my home, flawlessly
  • I have xfinity 800 Mbps plan and my download speed was consistently 850+ Mbps
  • I purchased and placed the new Google Nest WiFi Pro points at exactly the same spots as the previous router and points ... so, walls, interference, obstructions, etc cannot be an issue!
  • I have a total of four (4) units and they are spaced out at every other room and none in the finished basement or the second floor
  • The signal is great throughout, however, the max speed is about 620Mbps
  • I went to xfinity store and exchanged the Gateway modem for their latest version
  • By itself, the Gateway modem had a download speed of 930 Mbps
  • I put the modem on bridge mode and connected the Google Nest WiFi Pro and my speed has been consisted equal to or less than 620 Mbps
  • After reading your response, I changed the DNS setting ... no change
  • I upgraded the ethernet cable between the xfinity Gateway modem to the Google Nest WiFi Pro router (WiFi) to Cat 6 ... no change
  • I have 45 devices connect to the various points and the signal strength is excellent, however, it is limited to 620 Mbps
  • I have no issues with any of my connected devices except, I am not getting the speed I am paying for
  • I have been frustrated since I have installed the new devices and have now reluctantly accepted that "this is it"
  • Going back is not an option
  • Knowing what I know now combined with my personal experience, going to the Nest WiFi Pro was a mistake for me ... I should have left well enough alone
  • Since I always long for new technology, I purchased the new units only to regret, now
  • My recommendation: If you're happy with your current Google Nest WiFi, DO NOT upgrade to Google Nest WiFi Pro!
