Google Nest Wifi support for Thread Smart Home devices

MelNest

Hi, if I were to purchase a Thread enabled smart home device today, would it be able to connect via my Google Nest Wifi router? I know the Thread radio is built into the Nest WiFi but is it activated and usable at the moment? Thanks

Hi MelNest,

Thanks for reaching out. The Google Nest WiFi router and WiFi point are equipped with the ability to join an existing Thread network and participate as a Thread Router. You could click on this link to learn more about this.

Thanks,

Edward

Hi MelNest,

We don't have any news to share about the feature to create a thread network. We appreciate users who are keen on sharing their thoughts with us. We're always looking to improve — we'll take this as feedback.

Thanks,

Edward

Hi Edward,

Thanks for the reply.

I did see that info prior to posting but it seems overly complicated. Is there a plan for the process to be made more user friendly and ideally be able to create a thread network rather then join an existing one?

thanks

With current preview software I can see the hub2 in the thread app. Would I be able to pair something else now like a Eve lightbulb?

Hi fabnapp,

Thanks for reaching out. The Nest Hub also supports Thread allowing you to connect devices built with Thread — like backyard lights that need long-range connectivity — to your home network. You can click on this link to learn more about this.

Thanks,

Edward
