Google Wifi firmware 13729.57.27 frequently disconnected to the internet

FWCA
Community Member

Previously, I reported that M89 firmware on Google Wifi lost connection to the internet every other day (https://support.google.com/googlenest/thread/116896459/m89-firmware-is-unstable-on-google-wifi?hl=en).  Starting 9/18/2021, my Google Wifi keeps on losing connection to the internet a few times a day.  I checked the firmware and it has been changed to 13729.57.27.  This is worse than M89.  Google engineers, please take a look.

Good suggestion to troubleshoot, although isn't the point of a mesh system to have points so you can cover your entire house?

Good data point. At the same time defeats the purpose of why I bought it in the first place.

Same experience here. My access points are in a closet until the next firmware. Not good.

No quite.... I only have the nest router with no pucks and it's driving me crazy.
Crazy is quite the euphemism, I'm bleep-ing angry

It should just be an appliance. Once setup, you should just plug it in and it works with nothing other than adding devices or dealing with an update.

I ripped it all out last night. I bought a mesh system from TP-Link. It was faster and easier to setup. This morning my wife asked me what did I do to the internet. I asked her if something was wrong. She said no, just it has worked all morning. This marks the first and last time I use an Google networking products. I am going on almost 24 hours now and not a single hiccup or dropped connection. The amount of time I wasted on the Google system was crazy.

Buh-bye Google!

After I found this thread, I started looking at replacement systems.  Seems like Netgear, Eero and TP-Link are better alternatives to this Google system.  I also agree, this should be a straightforward appliance.  Don't really want to go this route, but to take a page from Apple's playbook, it should "just work".

It's really sad that so many Google products have problems that are left up to the "community" to figure out.  This Nest system, Pixel phones and the ever-buggy Android Auto.  We're all beta-testers for Google.

I have a switch connected to the nest wifi, I found if I unplug the cable from LAN Ethernet ports(between my switch and nest wifi), then this issue is gone, it's kind of stable now

Long time customer of the Onhub / Wifi units, I have installed over 15 networks with them. They were rock solid, and then, due to EOL,  decided to start migrating them with Nest Router. Big MISTAKE

Using Nest router (model H2D, FW 13729.57.27), a total of 19 in different networks, most of them in backhaul, some of then in mesh. The performance is erratic, they drop ramdomly  and do not came back without a reboot. Its simply bad, and worse is the reaction of google of denial and keep selling these defective units that cannot hold a connection. What is the point of a distributed  mesh system if the relay points go down on a regular basis. It seems that all the problem is fixed with a reboot, GOOGLE, set a whatchdog, I belive out of the 10000's  of engineers you have in  your payrol, some will be capable to implement a simple hardware reboot watchdog if the system is down for more than a period of time (15 min will be more than aceptable).

Same problem, been going on for months. I'd changed the unit and still have the issue so called Spectrum, after 4 visits and no resolution one Spectrum operator finally suggested it was the Google software and then i find this thread!

What we all need to do is share this issue with as many reporting sources as possible.  If you frequent tech sites, send this in to them, so they can publish it as The Verge did.  Although Google is a massive company that most likely won't be affected by things like tech site articles, at least the word will be out there and not just in this thread.  There hasn't been a response from anyone other than fellow Community Members.  The last response from a "Specialist" I believe was back at the beginning of December.

Just adding that I have had the same issues since 13729.57.27 - Please Google, fix this!

I am "happy" that I found that all are bad, I almost send two back. This is not the first time that google has neglected hardware and users (nexus 5, 5X). Google, please fix it, or you many have a class action law suit. The response of Google is insulting, which is to keep the 13729.57.27 lingering for months with no patches or emergency updates. We need to keep this thread alive, and keep calling google to complain

Well, calling to nest tech support will not do much. Reboot, reset and call back.

Adding to the list . Having heard time with this issue

Having the same problem. But it is not only the wifi. Seems to be a problem with the router function too, Slow and loses internet connection on cable too. Works for a while, then slows down until it grinds to a halt, then works barely, and so on. Still on same fw version as OP.

My network is quite complex, with 1 Nest wifi router, 4 Google Wifi, several switches. Rebooting the Google mesh router fixes the problem for a while. Very annoying, and I am tempted to change out the Google network.

Any updates?

Joining the list of disappointed people.  Mesh network has gone from rock solid to frustratingly fragile.  Software version 13729.57.27.  Not sure what this build added to the devices but I would gladly forego those "improvements" to return to some semblance of usability.

Since the "Google Nest" Twitter account is no more, it's all now done by the "Made By Google" account.  I've sent them a tweet and tagged some tech sites.  I suggest you do the same to get more attention to this, even though it seems it will be a futile effort and the solution will be to trash these expensive routers and buy any of the working products mentioned by others in this thread.

Just dump the piece of crap on Craigslist and buy something better. I think it is getting close to a month since I swapped out for TP Link Decos and I can't tell you how much more free time I have by not having to reboot the horrendous Google WiFi turds. They started out so promising.

I should have kept my Eero setup but I gave it to my son. That setup was rock solid. I went with TP Link as I didn't want to invest as much for a smaller house and I thought the Eero might be a bit overkill.

Got a response to my tweet to the @madebygoogle account.  They wanted me to DM them to troubleshoot as "poor connectivity can be caused by...device misconfig, settings on the hardware itself...we'd like to make sure everything checks out".

Geez, so much for them reading about the thread.  I re-replied to them to this thread, who knows if they'll even do that.

@WavshrdrI'm in between the TP-Link Decos and an Eero set.  I have Google Minis and Displays around my apartment already and I'd like to keep using them.  In a 2000 sq ft apartment, I'm guessing either mesh set would work well?  I really just want something I can plug in to my Fios, have fast wifi and be done with.

I went with Decos myself. It was an easy swap out for the Google Nest setup keeping the network config the same. My Google displays and other devices reconnected with no issues.

EricX
Community Member

Talk about easy swap out and keeping everything the same.  Got my Decos today and within 10 minutes I'm up and running on a WiFi-6 setup with **actual** blazing speeds unlike what the Google Home app kept claiming I was getting, even though the WiFi router/points kept dropping speed to devices to 5-6 Mbps.

Luckily I saved the box of the Google WiFi crap and off to eBay/Craigslist they go

Wavshrdr

@EricX Glad you took the plunge. I already flipped mine on CL. Totally covered the cost of my Decos. Just for the heck of it, I bought the Eero 6's and will test them back to back with the Decos.

Been having same issues as everyone else since adding a Google Point to my Google Router, I've turned the extra Google Point off and it's now working fine. Defeats the point of having ordered an extra Google Wifi Point but there you go. The lack of remedy for this problem from Google is offensive! Same firmware on both devices, both 13729 etc.

this is getting worst everyday.  one of my nest routers went down due to a power outage and now the guest network is gone and cannot be set. on my house i am going back to the onhubs i was replacing. what a waste of plastic and silicon. the slow speed of google fixing this points to a widespread hardware issue. if they cannot fix it before summer, ( 4 months),  we should organize and class action sue . we all have 100-1000 of dollars invested in these useless devices. why useless: drop connection, underperform on speed, need to be rebooted, freeze up, some features stop working with no advise and the manufacturer refuses to do anything about it.  if the hardware is bad, recall and fix, if the software is bad,  patch it. but this do nothing attitude ( we have less than a update per quarter) is an insult to the long time community of users.

Having the same issue.  This is getting crazy that it's taking so long.  Costco has the Orbi system with a router and 2 points for $120 off.  I'm going to pick it up this weekend and set it up.  Going to try and take the Google Nest Wifi back to Best Buy for a return.

Orbi is awesome. We moved it it last week and for the first time in months I can get through a Teams meeting without getting disconnected. Wish we had made the move months ago but I hated to give up on the expensive google system.

Having the same issues for many months on two different networks.  Switching the DNS over to CloudFlare's custom DNS seems to have helped for now.  Not sure exactly what the deal is but Google should be ashamed at how long this issue has persisted, all while they continue selling these devices.  This will probably be my last Google Hardware purchase.  There's too many other solid options out there.

I am having the same problem, Google when are you going to correct this? My Wifi loses connection especially when I am in a video chat,(at least it is noticiable) and reconects some seconds later

Google seems to be ignoring this as the last "official" reply in this forum was at least a couple of months back.  You're better off dumping the system and replacing it with one of the several alternatives mentioned in the thread.  I replaced mine with a TP-Link Deco system, and have had no issues so far and my WiFi speeds are night an day now.

thank you for the reply!

new problem, i am loosing connection to my smart plugs  (2.4 GHz) both Alexa and Google assistant devices. It seems they get dropped out and they don't came back. At the beggining i thought it was the server from the Chinese vendor, but when it happens, the Alexa branded devices and the generic ones go down. Solution: reboot the network . It sucks

Kaosu

I'll do you one better. Not only is one specific Google WiFi node randomly going "offline", but when I power cycle it and bring it back up...that somehow causes my main Nest WiFi to go "offline" and occasionally take the internet access with it.

frabor

keeping the level of issues up, my streaming goes to an standstill and stutters randomly while the speed test of the router states 600/100 .  The stream in question is a single thread of prime video at 2k, and the streamer is connected to the nest router via ethernet. no comments

I got exactly the same issue here. @User123456

please do something.

I've unsubscribed to this thread but as mentioned before, Google is not doing anything and seems they won't do anything. I am more than happy with my TP Link Deco set and have never had better connections and speed

Bought the new Eero 6e, will do some before and after speed tests off my FIOS 1gb connection.  It’s pretty clear that Google does not care about these issues, isn’t going to do anything about them, will keep selling these malfunctioning pucks and try to just slip under the radar.  I am planning to share my notes and links to this forum and a few others with my Senator.

Anza

Complainings aside, I will probable go this route ditching googles device and get something else, that is more reliable at the very least.

BTW, @wtfgoogle1 how is the Eero 6e experience so far? It came out very recently, didn't it? Not sure if you had them long enough to tell how reliable they are.

Anza

and how's the overall setup/config experience? Googles wifi gave me too much headache.

EricX

I have the same FiOS setup and I'm consistently getting 800-900 Mbps hardwired and about 500 on WiFi

Like so many folks right now, I'm working from home and this is becoming intolerable - I'm likely going to do away with these devices for something that's more stable
