Google Wifi giving wrong location

andysutt

I recently was given a 3 pack Google wifi from a friend.  He factory reset it before giving it to me.  Upon installation and setup at my house, my family's phone's location is showing at his residence.   Life360 has them leaving home as soon as they connect to the wifi here.   Occasionally it bounced back to my house but then right back to his residence.  Please advice

Sounds like the factory reset didnt fully take, I would do it again just to be sure.

Sorry just want to confirm, when you factory reset, you are having to go through the entire setup process again correct ?  Naming the Fifi network, setting a password, adding the points, etc... ?  It makes no sense at all that they would show their old home , unless the factory reset didn't fully wipe the devices.    How are you doing the factory reset, through the app or via the reset button on the device itself?

Also want to confirm , can you ask your friend if they have removed the old devices from his Google home app ?

Yes, I’m having to setup everything again from scratch.    I reset via the app the first time and the second time I reset via the button on the devices

Are you accounts linked in some way, perhaps as part of your "family" in the Google settings ?

Try reporting this to skyhook

Could be locating based on mac address of routers

Accounts aren’t linked in any way.  I double checked and he said he removed them from his google account as well.  This is very weird

Also are you using the same network SSID as your friend did?

Completely different SSID than what he had setup.

Hey, andysutt.

Sorry for the setup issues you're having with your points. That sounds really confusing, especially after going through the factory reset process. I'm going to consult with an internal team on this and see what we can find out on this. I'll update the thread as soon as I know more.

Thanks.

Thank you.
I’m  still trying to figure out the issue as well.  Our locations bounce between my house and the old location about every 15-20 minutes. It’s very annoying.  I was hoping with time it would straighten out but so far no luck

That's just crazy. I'm sorry that's happening. We'll keep things updated as we find out more, but in the meantime, let me know if anything improves.

Thanks.

Hey, andysutt.

I just wanted to follow up real fast and see if you were still seeing this issue or if anything has improved for you. If things have changed, let me know.

Thanks.

I fixed the issue.  I’m an apple phone user.   What I did to fix it was go to maps and report my location as being wrong and changing it to the correct address.   I did this for every device in my house.  24 hours later it was updated.       Android users can do the same with whatever standard map application is on their device.

That's good news, andysutt. Also, thanks for sharing the fix that worked for you. Hopefully that works for others as well. As we have our resolution on this one, I'll go ahead and close up the thread. If you need anything else down the road, just feel free to open a new thread.

Thanks.
