Google nest wifi failing after 2 years

Tonyholdgate

I've had a nest wifi and two points for just under 2 years. I added a third point 8 months ago. It worked flawlessly up until 3 weeks ago when the network failed whilst I was away. Came home rebooted the router and it came up but showed points offline. Restarted then as well and returned to normal or so it seemed. I'd received a new pixel 6 pro and was seeing some lag when browsing which vanished when I disabled WiFi. Then one point dropped off then another. Reboot didn't work this time. Factory reset and it all came back but again the lagging got worse after 24 hours noticeable on all devices and another 24 hours later died again. This time factory reset failed- would not reset. I eventually got it to but no longer trusted the unit. I'm on fttn so connected through a bridged modem router which I reset to be primary and everything returned to normal with the Google system offline. I purchased a new Google nest router only and replaced the faulty unit and rebridged the modem. Back working like it did for two years.

The reason I'm putting this up is that I've been chatting to other nest users who have had the same issues at close to the two year mark of ownership. Some have abandoned their nest wifi as they were just out of warranty. We suspect there's a non volatile memory issue on the routers where the memory is not being cleared correctly day to day and even with a factory reset the units are not cleared. This is manifesting after two years of solid use. No sign of overheating or board failures otherwise.  Hoping you'll take this seriously and check it out

I'm on another brand now as these devices totally failed for me. Sure close the thread but the issue was never resolved. And it's many users affected

I'm dealing with the same problem at just under 2 years. Is replacing with a new router the only option to fix this issue?

It is the only way to fix this. I think the warranty is two years but I work from home so could not afford to wait for a warranty claim. Google take note- here's another one

I'm having similar issues after just less than 1 year

I’m having the same problem after a little less than 2 years as well… very frustrating.

Yep, mine just died. Just over 2 years. Have tried everything

I've moved to another brand - not without its own issues but at least it gives me more visibility into its workings so I can troubleshoot. Its the single most  frustrating thing about the Google nest wifi- a lack of any kind of logs or visibility into its os to see where the issue lies. A white bos  is an great approach- until  it plays up

Hi Mel,

I just spent an hour on the phone with technical support. They said my device is out of warranty, purchased 7/21/2020. Are you able to help escalate and send a replacement device? Incredibly frustrating that my device simply will not connect to WiFi, and Google is telling me to purchase a new device.
