Need help connecting used mesh point to existing WiFi router & points

I'm not sure if I have Google Wifi gen 1, or if I have Google Nest Wifi. How can I tell?

I got a used round mesh point / hub. I can't connect it to my existing router, which has 3 hubs already, but the connectivity in my office is not reliable & that's where I most need it.When the Google wifi app still existed, I'd added points/ hubs with no problem at all, but it's been sort of merged into Google Home, which isn't operating on my Mac as various user support documents are saying it does.

The new-used point wanted a new "home" set up. Why couldn't it see my existing wifi network? What could I have done to get it to see the existing network?

I stupidly set up a new home network, and the used point wanted to be its router. I stupidly let it connect to the LAN port on my main google wifi router, thinking it needed that to be a point, and it set itself up as another, second router for another network!

The good news is that my existing network works. The bad news is I can't figure out how to get the used point to connect. I tried a factory reset on it by pressing the button on the point. How do I know that that worked?

If you all don't come up with anything, what's the best phone number for Google tech support? I know my existing system's probably out of warranty and there will likely be a fee, which is why I'm hoping you all will be able to point me somewhere helpful first. Thank you!

Hi jjt,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with adding points to your existing network. You could click on this link to know what type of Google WiFi device you have. I'd love to know more about this, and I have a few questions:

  • What is the light status of the points that you're trying to add?
  • Are you setting up the new points in the same home structure as your existing network?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Edward
