Nest Wi-Fi Pro | Great coverage | Shocking speed

Just purchased 4 Nest Wi-Fi Pro which is a significant investment. Really, really disappointed - and I would describe myself as a Google fanboy! Whilst the coverage is great, the speed provided by these units is shocking. Google, you should be embarrassed. Despite a 1gb line and 970mbps when wired directly into the main router unit, WiFi speeds are maxing out at around 170-180mbps.

I have tried all the online solutions - restarts, turning off ip6, static mac addresses etc etc. I can't get any more speed out of them. Firmware is also up to date.

I appreciate that I'm going to lose speed over Wi-Fi vs wired, but less than a fifth? Seriously? I'm getting less now than my old Google Wi-Fi units. A lot less.

Why are you releasing clearly deficient units? I know they're not the most expensive on the market, but they're not the cheapest either. Really considering returning and dropping the Google ecosystem from my setup.

Anyone managed to get any decent speeds out of these bricks?

Hi @drewgy,

Thanks for posting here in the community. I'm sorry that the Nest WiFi Pro isn't providing the correct speed. I'm here to help!

To gather more information, I'd like to ask a few questions:

  • How far away is the router from the modem?
  • Is there any other device connected to the modem?
  • What kind of Internet service provider do you have?
  • Is this the first time that you're experiencing this situation?
  • Are there devices near any point that might cause interference, like a landline phone, baby monitor, microwave, or any device that broadcasts on 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz?

In the meantime, please confirm if your modem is just a modem or modem-router combo and also check the data used through the Google Home app:

  1. Open the Home app.
  2. Tap Wi-Fi.
  3. Go to the "Device list."
  4. At the top of the list, you can find the download and upload usage of the network. High data usage (more than 20% of your total bandwidth) can be a cause of slow speeds.

Please keep me updated.

Best regards,

Jenniffer
