Nest WiFi Point keeps making Max Volume sound

Mushu84

My Nest Router is in my room, and I have the point upstairs.  The Mesh test says it has a great connection.  My problem is that the WiFi point keeps randomly making the Max Volume sound night and day, which is driving the roommates batty.

I've rebooted, factory reset, removed and re-connected to my router, but the issue still persists.

Hey @Mushu84 .

  • Can you elaborate on "making the Max Volume sound"?
  • Did anything change recently with the network setup?
  • Are there any lights displaying on the point?

Hi Patrick!

The sound the device makes is the same sound you hear once you've reached 100% volume on the device.  When I check the volume on the device, as well as the app, it is still set to the minimum.

Nothing in the Network has changed.

No lights, and I'm not sure if there are any when it randomly makes the sound.

Thanks @Mushu84 .

It sounds like the point is detecting commands that are triggering Google Assistant and the sound you are hearing is the prompt when it goes into listening mode for the next command. This could be due to the sensitivity being too high, allowing anyone to control, other devices triggering it, etc.

Try the solution below to see if the sound stops. If it does, then there is something that is triggering Google Assistant in the environment as theorized; you can just leave it off in that case if it isn't used and the problem is solved. If not, then we need to dig a little deeper.

Turn off the Google Assistant on Nest Wifi point

Let me know how it turns out.

Hey Patrick,

Thanks for the suggestion.  I asked my roommates if they've heard the sound in the past couple of days, and they all say it seems to have stopped.  If it acts up again, I'll try your suggestion and hopefully remember to come back to this thread with an update.

Thanks for the update. Please let us know if you need more help.

As it stands right now, my roommates have not heard it randomly making sounds anymore.  If we start noticing it again, I'll come back here.

Thanks!
