Nest Wifi Pro - Still SLOW

RobHughes
Community Member

I have spent hours researching, with tech support, made a previous post here( https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Nest-Wifi/Nest-wifi-pro-slow-speeds/m-p/375956#M40222 )

the big November update that was supposed to fix everything did nothing, there have been no solutions, I was given a form to fill out and promised someone would contact me. Only so they could close out my post.  Which is now locked.  Of course, no one has contacted me.   The Nest Wifi Pro is not performing the way it should or was advertised.  Especially for the cost.  Google has not offered anything to correct this issue.  Being a Google fan this is extremely disappointing.  Is it too late for a refund?  I don't even want it anymore.  What business is ok with putting out a product that is failing so bad.

I just purchased it and set it up. and am getting significantly slower speeds than my Google Wi-Fi points...I'm extremely confused on what to do. Sounds like I should just go ahead and return it?

Yes, exactly what happened to me. Google wifi was great. Thought the "Pro" would be an upgrade, not a major downgrade

I'm still not getting the same speed at my router but i am now finally getting better speeds overall.  It might have something to do how it installs.  I'll keep monitoring and hope that someone comes on with a real answer for why my 1 GBPS service is only showing up as 500 MBPS connected by a CAT cable

Still getting 500-600 MBPS at the Google WiFi pro connected to the modem.

Also one of my points that was "great mesh connection" is now weak and literally nothing changed. This is very frustrating.

I went ahead and bought a new Cat 6 cable and moved my WiFi pro attached to my modem closer. I'm getting a weak mesh connection and I can't be more than 25 ft away. If I move any closer I'll basically be in the same room. This can't be the intent. It says it covers 2500 sq ft each point. My house is only 1700 sg ft and I have 3 points. What am I missing here?

Hey ZJS,

A few questions: are you using a modem/router combo from your Internet Service Provider (ISP)? Also, do you have any paused devices?

Give these steps a try:

  • If you're using a modem/router combo, set that to bridge mode to avoid double NAT issues.
  • Make sure that there is minimal to no interference (concrete, bulletproof glass, metal, mirror, etc.) and the points are no more than two rooms apart.
  • Remove any special characters in your network name and password.
  • Turn off IPv6.
  • Change your DNS server into 8.8.8.8 on the primary and 8.8.4.4 on the secondary server. Hit the save/ floppy disk icon on the upper right.
  • Unplug the power from your Google Wifi devices for 2 minutes.
  • If the issue persists, try factory resetting your network.

Since you mentioned that you’re using 3 Nest Wifi Pro router and points for your 1700 sq ft home, I also suggest keeping just the main Nest Wifi Pro router as one device can already cover up to 2200 sq ft. Having more than what is needed could potentially cause interference if the coverage overlaps. Check if your speed improves after doing that. Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Abi

Hi Abi

I replied yesterday but failed to post.

Im still having a speed problem at the modem to router connection. Its just a modem only. I factory reset, switched to a different Pro router and am still only getting around 600 MBPS.  With my computer I am getting 950 MBPS.  I understand the Pro router is designed for 1 GBPS. Please advise on other options to remedy
