Nest Wifi Pro massive ping spikes

Hi everyone,

I have read on previous posts about the Nest Wifi Pro and some of the lag/ping issues that have been experienced. However, I wanted to create my own post as what I am seeing is far worse than anything reported so far. My last Speedtest using Ookla’s Speedtest.net resulted in ping over 1000ms (1 second) which is completely unusable.

 

this Speedtest we performed on multiple devices, all reflecting the same 1000+ ms ping. 
after restarting the units through the app, the ping dropped back to 17ms, which is where it normally sits. 

the modem does not get restarted, and therefore no ISP handshake is occurring. It’s just the Nest hardware. 
this has been happening for months now, and I’m completely sick of it. 
has anyone experienced something similar? And did you find a fix?

Thanks for reaching out to the Google Nest Community. I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing ping spikes while using your Nest WiFi Pro; I’ll be more than glad to help you.

Before we continue, I have some questions:

  • Are you pinging the WAN IP from a device outside the WAN when you notice packet loss on your network?
  • Did you experience this with a single service or across the entire network?
  • Has anything changed on your network since you started experiencing this issue?
