Nest Wifi Router and Frontier Fiber direct to ONT - some devices not connected

Hello community! 😊

I have recently returned my Frontier Fiber Arris modem/router and just went direct to my Google Nest Router from the ONT with help yesterday from a Frontier technician at my house.

Now I am trying to get all of my smart devices, phones, tablets, and computers to connect to WIFI but with mixed results

Google Nest WIFI is brand new with the latest firmware installed. I also have an older Gen 1 Nest Wi-Fi router that behaves the same way.

  1. I have completely reset my WIFI points with new WAP names and passwords. No weird symbols, spaces, or characters in the name
  2. cleared cache and uninstalled Google Home App
  3. Cleared network settings on all iOS devices – I can connect to the WAP but no way to browse or use any app that needs data
  4. Reset all other devices – see below for list

The Good:

All Apple MacOS devices work

Android devices work connecting to Wi-Fi

Windows devices work connecting to Wi-Fi

Google Net Hub devices work connecting to Wi-Fi

Lenovo Smart Clocks devices work connecting to Wi-Fi

Chromecast with Google TV works but not with Amazon Prime even after factory reset

The Bad:

DO NOT WORK Apple iOS  - note i have reset the network settings on these phones so this is not an issue with the device. they work great on other wireless connections like coffee shops etc,

Nest Protect Does NOT work at all after factory resets getting error messages right at the end P009 (.080)

Nest Thermostat Does NOT work at all after factory resets

Nest Doorbell (wired) Does NOT work at all after factory resets

Nest Doorbell (battery) Does NOT work at all after factory resets

Wyze devices DO NOT work at all after factory resets

Kasa devices DO NOT work at all after factory resets

Nest support not able to resolve and Frontier says that it’s not their problem.

Many thanks to you all! 🙏

Scooter!

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for reaching out. Guest network was a great idea and attempted with no joy.

It turns out I need to install a Frontier POS DSL router (bridge mode) between the Frontier FIBER ONT and the Google WIFI  (i guess not really router) router.

Thanks!

Scott

Were you able to get that installed and working then, scooter_dooder? If so, I'll go ahead and mark this as resolved, but I don't want to if you're still seeing any issues.

Thanks.

Hey, scooter_dooder.

I'm sorry for the issues you're having getting all your devices set up. That sounds like quite a frustrating experience to have so many devices offline like that. You've definitely gone through a good bit of troubleshooting. Would you mind letting me know some of the steps that support had you try already? Also, if you set up a guest network, do any of these devices failing to connect properly connect to the guest network?

I look forward to hearing back from you on this and helping you getting it sorted out.

Thanks.
