Nest Wifi Router not utilizing ethernet backhaul to Google Wifi Router

I recently added a Nest Wifi Router to my Google Wifi Router setup - but it appears to be connected to the mesh only through a wireless connection even though I have a known good ethernet connection - is there something in the setup of Google Wifi --> Nest Wifi that won't work hard-wired, or a way to force the Nest Wifi to use the ethernet connection?  (Note this works for the backhaul if I swap it out for another Nest Wifi Router.)

Hi, @ntrail,

Thank you for reaching out to the community. I apologize that your device is prioritizing the wireless connection over the Ethernet connection. I'm happy to help you find a solution.

Regarding your question about prioritizing the Ethernet connection, yes, it's possible. Here are the steps:

  • Open the Google Home app.
  • Select Favorites > WiFi.
  • Select Devices, then choose the device you want to prioritize.
  • Select Prioritize device.
  • At the bottom menu, choose the desired priority duration.
  • Select Save.

Please let me know if this works for you.

Best regards,

Ana

My question is about how to get the mesh based router point to prioritize using the ethernet backhaul versus the wireless backhaul - I appreciate your response but it is not answering my question.

Hi, @ntrail

Thank you so much for your response. I understand how frustrating it must be to set up a new Nest WiFi router and find that it isn't using the available Ethernet connection for optimal performance. It's disappointing to encounter technical difficulties, especially after investing time and effort in setting up your network. I'm happy to help!

To effectively troubleshoot, please provide the following information:

  • Does your Nest WiFi router have a built-in speaker?
  • Do you want to use the Nest WiFi device as your main router or as an access point?
  • Do you need all your mesh network devices to be hardwired?

Keep me posted.

Regards,

Ana
