Nest router setup failure (not working, stuck in loop with 'reset modem')

Recently purchased the Nest 2 pack.

 

Trying to setup the router, and stuck in a loop where it tries for a while (screen with "connecting- ensure ethernet cable is connected", "talking to ISP. ensure ethernet cable is connected", etc) and then fails to the "reset modem" screen.

The modem is fine, as proven by my existing router working flawlessly (netgear) before and after fruitlessly trying to setup the Nest router.  

I've tried resetting everything and continue to be blocked at this step of setting up the Nest router.  

I've tried hard resetting the Nest router, still no luck.

If no resolution soon, will be returning and switching to another mesh network.

pls help

I was having the same issue yesterday. The only thing I didn't try was disconnecting all Ethernet cables (minus the one needed for the router) and then hard resetting the modem itself. Then kept it powered off for a minute. Powered up modem. Then powered up the nest router. Added new device and it finally connected. Hope this helps good luck

After seeing your comment I tried resetting the modem again, and it worked.  "Persistence" was the right solution here haha.

Yeah not sure what the issue is with the router. Everything seemed to work fine last night until this morning. The home app shows 920mbps but all my wireless devices are only running 2mbps. Starting to see a lot of people getting slow speeds or just can't connect router to modem. Google needs to fix whatever bug is causing these issues.
