New Nest Router Setup does not recognize ISP signal....says not connected.

When I connect the ethernet cable directly to the computer, it works fine and ISP uses DCHP.  I'm not a tech expert so please keep answers understandable if possible.

I previously used a Google Wifi and when I returned from winter, I could not get it to connect, even after trying to do a factory reset.  Even the factory reset wouldn't complete on the Google Wifi, so I just purchased a new Nest Router to try as an option.  At least the Google Home app recognized the Nest Router and began the setup.  After scanning the QR code, it looked for updates and says not connected.   I can't get it to find the internet.

Thanks for any help you might have.

I have gonetspeed for ISP - Fiber. A wired connection to a switch that I have three Google routers on work. One of my routers is a Google Wifi Router. The other two are Google Nest Wifi Routers. I was having inconsistent connections issues with a cell device and decide to take the old generation router out of the mix. I drop the network device via google home and of course they were no longer recognized, even as new devices. I then Factory reset the newest Nest wifi keeping the other two off and I did detect it finally after a factory reset but won't connect with the internet. So I unplugged it and then tried the other Nest Wifi and it too was recognized after a factory reset but won't detect the internet. I did the whole reset ISP modem (Fiber) a few times during this process but to no avail.  So a similar issue I think I will post a separate inquiry and see  if anything pops up. Reply back here if you have since resolved your issue. (and how). I will do that here if a get a positive result

Thanks.

keanja,

Short story, I was able to get the Nest router to recognize the ISP.

Long story....

I'm lucky enough to have a corporate technology guru as a good friend who was trying to assist with my problem, even he couldn't get it to work.  So, we went to his home to see if we could get it to work there. Same ISP and he used his personal iPad to try and set up the Nest router using my Google Home app and account.  Low and behold, he was able to set up the Nest router with no issues!  Then he asked one simple question.. "Do you have a VPN or other internet security app on your phone?"  I have used McAfee for years and had recently added my phone and iPad to the account.  It was a security setting on McAfee that was blocking the communications between the Nest router and the ISP.  If you are running a similar security program on your devices, you might try shutting off the internet security while you set up the router....it might just do the trick.

Hey, everyone.

I'm happy to see that the OP was able to sort out his issues and was kind enough to share the fix here. When setting up your Nest or Google WiFi mesh networks, it's always important to disable anything that could block communication, including certain security filters or VPN services. Before I mark this as resolved for the original poster, is there anything else needed here?

Thanks.

Jon, Thanks much for the reply!

I'll look to something on the phone causing the grief. Thanks again.
