Paused Sonos still started playing automatically despite being "paused"

I have a Sonos speaker that randomly starts playing music from my synology NAS automatically.  Sonos support has been no help figuring out why so I figured I'd just pause the device and then unpause it when we wanted to use it.  Well it still started automatically playing today when I wasn't home but since I had it paused, my wife wasn't able to connect to it to turn it off.  How is it possible that my wife couldn't connect to it from her phone but it was still able to connect to my synology to start playing music?  What exactly does pause do?

Hello @bbartel78

The "pause" feature in Google/Nest WiFi stops devices from connecting to external machines on the internet. It does not stop connectivity to other machines on your internal network. Smart speakers typically require a working internet connection to initiate and respond to spoken commands, and in addition, may not support app-based control (e.g., from a phone) without a working internet connection, either. I hope this helps explain the behavior you have seen.

Hi, bbartel.

It looks like MichaelP was able to explain what was happening here. Before I mark this as resolved I just wanted to follow up and see if there's anything else you needed here. If there's more I can do, just let me know.

Thanks.
