Problem adding Google wifi router as a mesh point using ethernet cable.

Hi,

So, my primary google wifi router is connect to my router via The LAN port (on the router end) and the WAN port (on the google wifi router.  No problems.

I have a second google wifi router that I would like to add the the network using it as a point but because it has an ethernet port I'd like to take advantage to hardwire the new addition into the router.

I've tried a few things and can't get the new router/point to connect anything other than over wifi.  I've tried plugging new router into a LAN port of the router and the LAN port of the Google point but no luck.  Also, when setting up i select to "find" a point (even though it's technically a router).

Any suggestions?

THank you!

Hi Rob1977,

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry that your additional Google Wi-Fi router is unable to connect using an Ethernet cable. I'm here to help.

Currently, any additional Google Nest Wifi routers and Google Wifi points are considered points in the mesh network, so they should be connected wirelessly.

Here are the steps on how to connect the point and the additional router:

  1. Open the Home app.
  2. Tap Devices, Add, Google Nest or partner device Google Nest or partner device.
  3. If prompted, choose a home.
  4. Select the point, then tap Next.
  5. Tap Scan code.
  6. Follow the in-app instructions to finish setting up.
  7. If there's another point to add, in the app, tap Yes when prompted or repeat these steps at a later time for additional points.
  8. Once all of the Google WiFi devices have been added, the app will perform a mesh test to confirm that everything works.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Regards,

Byron
