Router WiFi slower than access points

Getsuga

Hello. So recently I got the 3-pack of Google Nest Wifi Pro and I have some issues. Basically, the first router that is connected to the modem has significantly slower Wifi speeds than the access points. My Verizon speeds are at approximately 900mbps down/up, and on the 2 points across my home I get 300-400mbps down/up BUT when I test the speed on WiFi from the router itself I only get 5mbps down/up sometimes not even that. It's really bothering me and it doesn't make sense at all. In theory, the router should have greater WiFi speed than the access points because it's connected to the modem with a wire. I checked if they have the latest update( they all have the latest update) I tried changing the DNS settings to custom with primary 8.8.8.8 and secondary with 8.8.4.4 but still have the same issue. Resetting the network doesn't fix the issue also. Is there anything else that I can do, or at this point, I just retund them and look for another alternative?

Hey Getsuga,

Thanks for posting — let's see what's going on.

A few questions: are you using a modem/router combo from your Internet Service Provider (ISP)? Also, do you have any paused devices?

Give these steps a try:

  • If you're using a modem/router combo, set that to bridge mode to avoid double NAT issues.
  • Make sure that there is minimal to no interference (concrete, bulletproof glass, metal, mirror, etc.) and the points are no more than two rooms apart.
  • Remove any special characters in your network name and password.
  • Turn off IPv6.
  • Unplug the power from your Google Wifi devices for 2 minutes.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,
Abi

Hello, I did all of that before I opened the case. Also, the modem is only a modem, it's not a modem/router combo. From the speed test's that I've done, it seems that the latency is the problem. I/m getting 2-3 Mbps down/up but the latency goes up to 1000-1500 sometimes. I also tried factory resetting and changing the first router that i tried as a point, and vice versa, and set it up again but the latency is still there.

Hello, sorry I was busy these last couple of days I haven't checked my emails. But I just filled out the form right now. I also in the meantime did some changes with the placement of the router, and that made it a little bit better, but i'm still not getting even half of the speed that I'm supposed to get. Also, the latency is still there. Not that terrible like the last time i wrote here, but it still goes up to 500-700 latency on up/down.
