Scheduled network restart

Is there a way to schedule a Nest WiFi network restart?  I know I can use a smart plug and schedule an off/on, but I'd rather use a native method if at all possible.

I've no doubt that Google reps see this thread. They know their product is defective yet they offer no response or update on any type of resolution. It's also horrible that they continue to sell a defective product.

1000% agree

I'll add to the pile... I'm having the same problems. 100 mbps drops to around 1 mbps. I have to restart every 3 or 4 days on average. Definitely am not too happy with Google over this and the lack of response. If I could do it all over again, I'd never have spent the money on Google's products.

I think something that really isn't helping us push Google to fix this performance degradation issue is that it's inside a thread requesting night restarts.

The fundamental issue that would be masked by nightly reboots needs addressing in it's own thread.

Has anyone already created one that we can all get being, I can't see anything by searching?

I created this post back in December 2021 which goes over the actual issue. It hasn't made any difference in the response from Google.

Google devices just have so many issues right now, I found another annoying bug today, came here to the community to find it's been reported by others already but still remains broken, months or years later.

These "Community Specialists" seem to lock issues once they're passed onto the inner team meaning that we have no way to followup on why things are still unresolved. Very annoying... 😠

I'm having the same issue as well. After a week or so, my connection degrades to 10Mb, but seems to be only for the download and not uploads. I need to manually reset my nest wifi to fix it. This is an old complaint and Google still hasn't fixed it.

Meanwhile the "pro" version is about to launch with wifi6 and we're left here still dorking around with their gen2 debacle.

This issue still hasn't been fixed, my connection was today at a low 30Mb/s , but running speed test on Google Home app it went back to the correct speed of 200Mb/s, so there is definitely a software bug.

I haven't had it happen for a while now, I noticed a silent update a couple weeks ago, I'm now on version 14150.376.32 of firmware.

NesterW

I'm running the same firmware version as you 14150.376.32

Solved: jk, but I will be buying the next wifi pro with the credit from bringing the pixel 7 pro

With the launch of the nest Wi-Fi pro. Not too sure why they'd be fixing this. Also, I think we're heading for end of support.

Hadn't happened to me in a while but this morning I woke to all my wifi points offline. I can't get the points to stay online. I've tried Router restarts, I've tried WiFi point restarts, they may stay on for 1-5 minutes but then go back offline again.

Unplug all the poins, then restart your modem and main router together, after that, plug back every other ones

Seems to be hundreds of people are having this problems and talking about it across platforms. I'm *this* close to replacing my whole set up. Hopefully google will fix this issue here.

Just happened again for me, the running Speed Test on Google Home App fixed it, but is very annoying that it happens all the time.

today again .... if we could schedule a daily speed test, that could be a workaround

One step away from punting, but bought a digital timer for $11. Restart daily at 2:59am off, 3am on. Will see

Do you restart just the main router with this method?

You'll have to reboot all routers and points for this to work consistently.

Vancelot

That's what I thought. I don't want to put a timer on all of my nodes.

Yes, I’ve installed one smart plug daily reboot main router only.

Question, if you are using a smart plug to auto restart let's say every three days. How did you set it up to restart?

I have a spare smart plug and I want to do this.

For example, schedule off 0600 am Wednesday and Sunday. Schedule on 0601 am for Wednesday and Sunday. It should work.

Same issue here. Google please address.

The lack of response from Google is deafening. Literally hundreds of complaints about them selling us a defective product, and no offer of a solution.

Sounds like a basis for a class action lawsuit.

Well I know this thread has been going for a while and I am experiencing the same issue. Pretty interesting that the new 2022/23 Nest Wifi doesn't have Google Assistant built in. Could that be the culprit and they don't know how to fix the issue? My that's the issue we are all facing? 🤔 I too have thought about a smart plug but how will I get the smart plug back on once the network is down? Can't think of a feasible way.

I was looking into writing a script to periodically call the google api to run the speed test locally to see if it could work as a fix,  but didn't get time to do it.

After a year or so, we didn't get any feedback from Google. It is time to move on. We need to dump this bad product and its service. We should start to discuss ideas and suggestions for switching to other products.

Amazon eero, Netgear Mesh, Netgear Orbi(series), TP-Link AC1200 Deco M4, D-Link COVR, Netgear Nighthawk, Asus Zenwifi, Ubiquiti etc....

I've just made a start.

I have both alexa and google, alexa isnt as intuitive as google but home assistant is looking interesting

I'll throw my network in the ring for this issue. Google pretty much never honors feedback (it's been a long 12 years as an Android user...), so I wouldn't expect them to add a scheduled reset to the system, especially considering this would be admitting a fault in one of their products..

BUT JUST FOR THE HECK OF IT -- I'd love to have the option to have my mesh network reset itself periodically to clear any issues in the system. Playing games on my phone and having it stall when I'm in a realtime interaction couldn't be more frustrating ...

Having the same problem as others and already found two more locked community threads on this: very frustrating. I am willing to work with devs as needed but Google needs to get to the bottom of this. I've had Google Wifi for years now and been very happy: switched 3 other households in my family to it because it was so stable. Now I keep finding my internet speed dropping to a crawl at some random interval until I restart. Just 30 min back noticed slowness, did a speed test and it was like 6Mbps down. Restarted Google Wifi, didn't touch the cable modem and bam speed back up to 80+ Mbps. Come on guys fix this: if I have to switch to another mesh system it's forever: I will never go back to Google. 😞

Yeah, I ended up giving Google more money for their WIFI Pro and dumped the Google Nest.  I have ALWAYS had issues with lights needing to be reset, devices needing to be reset.  The new Google WIFI Pro, I have never had to reset anything.  I honestly think that the internal speaker caused issues (Magnetic Interference).  I never had to reboot the router in the basement, it always worked, but the two nest units were TERRIBLE!  Reboot every day, and even that didnt work.  I reset the entire network 3 times - no go.  Get out of Google Nest Home!  I want my money back for the old set!

I find it interesting that the new Google doesn't have assistant built in anymore. At the same time, for those of who invested in it and obviously a failure, there is no we messed, here's 30%, 20%, 5% to switch to the new Pro... Basically a big old F* you and thanks for your money.

Do you have the option Use 160 MHz channel for maximum performance on 5 GHz.  Several mornings I have had devices lose Wi-Fi connectivity. I'm wondering if it's because I turn this on.

You are correct. Having this on messed with windows devices. Specifically the wifi driver from Intel updates to a WiFi 6 driver and that driver stops working.

Turning off the 160 for the pro and disabling and re enabling that driver in device management or just restarting allows windows to connect to the pro via WiFi.

Turning that on caused lots of issues smh

I am running on the Google WiFi, one generation before the Nest WiFi, so I don't have any speakers in mine. They broke it with some firmware update as usual: very frustrating. Just today in the evening again ran a speed test and it was 10-20 Mbps, reset the system and back up to 90 Mbps. Google WiFi is not even the fastest mesh router but it was stable. Stability is all I ever wanted in a wifi router and I am very unhappy customer at this point.

Well with being said, maybe it's not the built-in. But when they switch to "their own software" a few months ago is when I started having issues as well. Seems like the DEVs should be trying to figure stuff out but by the looks of this tread and a few others, nope poops given. I too have the original mesh and this assistant built-in version as well. Both worked without flaws. Maybe this is intentional to make you want to buy the next and greatest Google Thing. Well for this lifer of Android, no more anything wifi mesh from Google. The company that should be doing it better, being that this is suppose to bring the net to your displays, lights, locks, garage door, etc etc etc. Kinda hard to do when your wifi continously drops to below operational speeds without restart.

I'm having the same issue, almost daily. Have to reboot the network and immediately everything works perfectly fine. However, the following day it's right back to the same issue. Rinse and repeat. It's quite aggravating.
