Setup for home network using switches

Karalun

I'm looking to optimize my home network setup and looking for feedback on how best to approach it.

The first part is basic:

ISP -> modem -> Nest WiFi Pro -> unmanaged switch

That all happens in a closet. From there I have 4 Cat6 Ethernet cables going to each room in my house.

One of those rooms is an office/gaming room where I intend to have a Mesh Point but also another switch to be able to connect multiple consoles and devices via Ethernet.

Should the connection in the office be:

Cat6 (from switch in closet) -> Mesh Point -> switch -> consoles/PC

Or

Cat6 (from switch in closet) -> switch -> Mesh Point/consoles/PC

Looking to understand which option works best and why. Thanks!

I've experienced that if traffic, especially LAN traffic, has to go through a Nest Wifi point, it's slower than if going through a regular unmanaged switch. Thus I'd recommend switch->switch->nest wifi, rather than switch->nest wifi->switch.

I don't work for Google.

Hi   thanks for your question cause i got kinda the same.problem

I have my mesh wifi routeur in the basement

So in basement     isp - modem - mesh routeur  - switch to all my rooms wired

But on the 1st and second floor i got mesh point but have issues with them as they often disconnect or cant find them with my phones sometime

So i want to be able to connect points/2nd mesh router  on 1st or 2nd floor to have a strong wifi signal for my 2nd floor wifi users

So whould i connect one of my 2nd floor ethernet cable "out" that comes from the basement switch ,  to a 2nd router that have an ethernet connection..and then plug it into a switch on 2nd floor to go wired in all room

Or from the switch in the basement..ethernet to 2nd floor switch   then plug my 2nd router in the switch  so the 2nd router can send strong wifi signal
