Unable to connect my 2 Nest Wifi routers wirelessly

Aj14

Hi, I’ve got my primary Google Nest router plugged into the ISP’s Ethernet. I’m trying to connect my second best wifi router (not wifi point) wirelessly to the first router but it is just not happening. Trying to add new device through the Google Home app but it keeps saying ‘connect lan’ when I want to connect the 2 routers wirelessly.

any suggestions?

Hi Aj14,

Sorry about the issues you're having with your Nest router. I would love to help, but I need a bit of clarification about what you're trying to do with your setup. You mentioned having two routers. Are you trying to create two different networks, or try to use one of the routers as a point. If you can give me a few more details on the type of setup you're trying to create, I'll be happy to continue helping.

Thanks,

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

Yes, I’ve got one router connected to the LAN and I’m trying to use the second router as a wireless wifi point to increase coverage within the house.

Does that clarify?

Thanks, Ajay

Yes, Aj14, that clarifies things for me. Thanks for letting me know.

When you set this second router up, are you selecting that you're setting up an additional point, or a primary router? Even if it's a router that is going to be used as a point, you need to treat it just as if it's a point and it will set up correctly. Let me know if you have any issues setting it up as a point.

Thanks,

Jeff

I have a similar problem and even when selecting point it gets recognised as a router and I get asked for QR code. Tried a factory reset to no avail. Tried with and without an Ethernet cable with an equal lack of success.

Hi Wyn,

Finally cracked it. I deleted the existing home addresses on the Google Home app and created a new address. And then configured the main router and it automatically asked for more devices to be added so I add 2 more routers as per the app instructions and all 3 got meshed together. It’s working! Pl try it out. Good luck!
