Unused devices

So I’ve checked multiple places for an answer with no success, but does anyone know how to delete unused devices from the list of devices connected to my network. I read the previous “fix” that they disappeared after 30 days, but that is definitely not true. I’ve had devices on my list for almost a year now. Any solution for this?

Currently, no, there isn't a way to manually remove the unused devices from that list.

I also have a few devices that haven't rolled off after 30 days so there was an escalation raised about that.

Yes! This is super annoying. I’ve a long list of greyed out Unknown devices.

But doesn’t matter now coz there’s a worse problem now - the app says my network is offline even though it’s working fine. Shows 0 devices online, all is quiet and working in stealth mode.
See other thread for more info.

Hi folks,

@JillG, thanks for the help!

@Swede0311, Like what JillG mentioned, we don't have a way to manually edit the devices as of now but our team is always looking for ways to improve and we'll take this as feedback.

@DorraJ, I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with your network. Could you try rebooting all of your Google Wifi devices and check the Google Home app if they're still offline?

Thanks,

Edward

Hi folks,

It's me again. I wanted to check back in to see if you have other questions and concerns. Feel free to let me know if you do.

Thanks,

Thanks for checking in, regarding the network offline issue - were there any changes made at Google's end (or Home app?) that might have helped?

I've previously restarted the Google Wifi devices several times to no avail - quite disruptive since it affects everyone in the household.  Eventually, including a restart of the ISP's broadband modem into the mix seemed to resolve the issue - perhaps it might be because a new IP address was assigned by the ISP to the Google Wifi router.

Unless it is to help test a possible fix, I don't fancy doing another round of testing again when others experiencing the same are reporting that the problem comes back - which is what I encountered as well.

Hi, DorraJ.

Sorry again for the troubles you're facing with your network. By any chance do you have IPv6 enabled in the WiFi settings of the Google Home app? If so, could you try disabling that for now to see if it has any impact on your performance? Let me know if you see any changes there. If you don't have it enabled, we can look at other steps as well.

Thanks.

Yes, I do have IPv6 enabled - which issue would turning it off address?

The "Network offline" issue resolved itself.

Now the large number of "Unknown Device" entries persists but seems to called "Unnamed Device" after recent app updates?

Also, at least 2 Guest Wifi IoT Devices are now showing up in the Main network as "Wired" devices.  I believe they are connected to the Google Nest Wifi Mesh Point - which somehow makes the system think that they are "Wired"?

Separately, noticed that the recent Google Home App updates have been making it harder to access individual grouped devices.  E.g. all the lights in a room is grouped together, and requires a touch-n-hold to access the individual lights???

Is there any way to ungroup all the lights, i.e. we don't want to turn ALL room lights on or off simultaneously.  We need easier access for fine grain control of individual room light fixtures.

Hey, DorraJ.

The reason I mentioned IPv6 is there happens to be a bug in IPv6 handling right now. It's not affecting all users, but some are seeing a variety of issues while having it enabled. For those using it, turning it off is a worthwhile test.

As for the unnamed devices, that is a frustrating issue too. Those devices will fall off over time, but a lot of that has to do with devices themselves and how they're identified on the network. MAC randomization can make this even more odd at times.

For the Home app stuff, you might want to ask about that on the Home app community forum. Users there will have all kinds of insights on tweaking groups or managing individual devices.

Thanks.

Okay, I've turned off IPv6.

Btw, I've also turned off the "Private Wi-Fi Address" option on all the iPhones and iPads at home several weeks ago thinking it might be what's causing these unknown/unnamed devices to appear.

Perhaps will leave things as such for a few more weeks to see if the situation improves.

I now have 43 unnamed devices.

Ok, DorraJ.

Let's see what happens over time with those unnamed devices. In the meantime, I'll keep checking in with our internal teams to see what more I can learn.

Thanks.
