Weak Nest WiFi Signal recent problem

Hi. In the past two months the WiFi signal strength on various devices has dropped significantly.  All devices are on the same level and about 7 meters away from the WiFi.

I have rebooted all systems multiple times.

any suggestions?

Hi SteveninRal,

Thanks for reaching out about the Wi-Fi signal dropping. I really appreciate you trying multiple reboots!

To help me troubleshoot, could you tell me:

  • Your Nest Wifi setup (router, points, or both)?
  • How many devices are in your system?
  • Are all devices affected, or specific types?
  • Are they disconnecting or just slow?
  • Any recent changes in your home or new nearby Wi-Fi networks?
  • What do your Nest Wifi lights show?
  • Any Google Home app warnings?

While I wait, please try these steps:

  • Check for new obstructions between Nest Wifi and devices.
  • Run a mesh test in the Google Home app (Wi-Fi > Settings > Network check).
  • Run a speed test (Wi-Fi > Settings > Network check) and check both router and device speeds.
  • Contact your Internet Service Provider.

Once I have that information, we'll work together to find a solution.

Regards,

Humberto

I have one router and two points.

This affects about three devices, but mainly laptops.

no warnings.

I have run a mesh and network test. Google is my ISP.

also, when I move the remote point closer, the speed and connectivity improves.

the devices disconnect and are slow. The main point is about 20 ft from the laptop.

no recent changes in the network or devices.

each point has a white (light blue) steady light.

Hi SteveninRal,

Thank you for your prompt response. From the information you provided, I see this issue can be caused by interference between your Nest Wifi router and your laptops.

To boost your Wi-Fi signal and connectivity to your laptops, here are the key solutions:

  • Optimize Placement (Most Important): Move your Nest Wifi router and points closer to where laptops are used. Place them centrally, in open spaces, away from large furniture or appliances. Always run a Mesh Test in the Google Home app afterward (Wi-Fi > Settings > Network check > Test mesh) to confirm a strong connection.

  • Reduce Interference: Temporarily move or unplug electronics like microwaves, cordless phones, or baby monitors that could be causing signal issues.

  • Full Network Restart: Unplug your Nest Wifi router for 1 minute, then plug it back in. Once it's online, unplug both points for 1 minute before plugging them back in.

To get the best performance, make sure the Wi-Fi drivers on your laptops are also up to date. Systematically trying these steps, starting with placement, should significantly improve your laptop's Wi-Fi experience.

Don't hesitate to post the update to the suggested steps; I'm glad to assist you.

Regards,

Humberto
