WiFi mesh.add point

FRUSTRATED....I have been trying to add a wifi point to an existing mesh system. The unit is recognized. But the next step says to add an ethernet cable. I don't want to add an ethernet cable. I have an established system. If I exit, I get a warning connection failed. How do I get this unit added to the system?

Secondly, Google Wifi app has been migrated to Google Home. I liked the information the WiFi app showed; wifi points, devices connected, network strength, etc. Where do I find this information on the Google Home App?

Thank you in advance for your solution.

Thank you for your response. As it turns out, I spoke with Google tech services. The problem was two different email addresses. This occurred as all the original equipment, Nest and Google Nest was set up with my Google Suite address. When I recently added the new Google Battery camera, I could not use the suite email and had to create an additional Google email address. Not all migration goes smoothly.

Are all points made for the exact same region? Mixing EU and US units won't work for instance. If yes, try to connect it with wire and let it update its' firmware and reboot. Then try disconnecting the ethernet cable and move it where you want it.

The information your asking for are available in the Google Home app, just go to the home in question, then "Wi-Fi". Yes, layout is very different, but I don't think it's missing any information I had in the Google Wifi app. I'm on Android, Google Home v2.44.1.8.

I don't work for Google.

I am having the same problem as Trainman and I have only one email address so this did not solve my problem.  When trying to add a point the app always tells me to plug in the ethernet cable.  This should not apply when adding points as there is no ethernet cable where you are adding points, only at the modem spot.  Help still badly needed.  Why are the instruction so poor with adding points?

Hello Rayford,

I'm sorry to hear you're also having this issue. Let's isolate this first. Can you check if you have another home structure in your Google Home app? Here's how:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. At the top, tap the name of the current home.
  3. Select a new home from the drop-down. If the drop-down icon doesn’t appear, it means you only have one home in the Home app.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,
Abi
