Wifi mesh 1/10th speed of router

Markiteight
Community Member

I have a Model: H2D
3 point mesh wifi running Software version: 14150.43.81 behind an NBN router (Australia).

The speed directly out of router when connected via Ethernet cable is ~300MB/s, when mesh is connected speed over wifi on various devices is ~30MB/s.

If however I select an individual device on Google Home & ‘Prioritize’ this device I get a fast connection (~300MB/s). This is not ideal or practical.

Is there a way to utilise the full bandwidth ~300MB/s across the wifi mesh?

Horrible issue with google.

890mb with Aussie bb direct to wifi and 230 with google, ethernet to google gives 630. Wifi 1 ft away is 230. Terrible hardware or config.

Hey there,

Thanks for posting — let's see what's going on.

Are you using a modem/router combo from your Internet Service Provider (ISP)? How many devices are dropping from the network? Also, do you have any paused devices?

Give these steps a try:

  1. Make sure that there is minimal to no interference (concrete, bulletproof glass, metal, mirror, etc.) and the points are no more than two rooms apart.
  2. Remove any special characters in your network name and password.
  3. Set a custom DNS at 8.8.8.8 on the primary and 8.8.4.4 on the secondary server. Hit the save/ floppy disk icon on the upper right.
  4. Unplug the power from your Google Wifi devices for 2 minutes.
  5. If the issue persists, try factory resetting your network.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Mel

Hi Jhonleael,

Thanks for your suggestions. I have tried your above suggestions with Google support. My ISP has stated that slow speeds are a known issue with Google mesh wifi & has suggested I buy an alternative wifi router.
Do you know why when I select ‘prioritise’ I get the expected speed?

i have already done all the obvious.

Well documented in the forum's and the hardware is sjite.

A workaround is prioritise device but that only gives 350-400. What a out the other 400?

If I use another wifi or go direct to modem I get 890.

The moment I use Google it drops and wifi is now 200-250.

How does a device cause so much drop?

Hey folks,

@Markiteight, thanks for getting back to us. You can check this guide for more details: Set a priority device

@Benni, I'm sorry to hear that you're still having an issue with your Google Nest Wifi. We'd like to take a deeper look into this — could you fill out this form and let us know once you're done?

Thanks,
Mel

Thanks @Jhonleanmel this is what I expected device priority to do. However I want to utilise the speed I have paid for until ‘normal’ conditions without having to manually turn on device priority every time - eg to watch a 4K video stream.
I am requesting a warranty refund also.

I did and Ive had no response.

My speed is slow using google, direct to modem and any other router I get 890, google I get 200-300. Your software throttles the connection for some reason I'm assuming it can't handle lots of connections so it does some crap to slow all services down.

Google test via home app is 860 so clearly something funny is happening. Priority device doesn't help.

Explain a fix or warranty refund
