com.google.castframework.setuplib.castsetuperror 14 during setup of Google Nest Wifi Pro

Hi guys - I am trying to improve the wifi at home and purchased 3 Google Nest Wifi Pro. I installed the 1st of the 3 acess points in stead of the regular router, and connected the Google Nest to the modem following the instructions from the Google Home App.

When Google Home checks for internet connection I get this error: The action could not be performed. (com.google.CastFramework.SetupLib.CastSetupError Error 14.

What is the actions needed to fix this error? Thanks in advance

Rgds, Kris

Since you seem to be using an iOS device for the setup check the following:

If that makes no difference try the Google Home app with the same Google account from a different iOS or Android device.

I don't work for Google.

Hi Kris6,

That certainly isn't the experience we want you to have. Here are the steps you can take to troubleshoot and fix the "CastSetupError Error 14" you're encountering during setup:

1. Check Cables and Connections:

  • Ensure that the Ethernet cable connecting your Nest Wifi Pro to your modem is securely plugged in at both ends.
  • Verify that the modem is powered on and functioning correctly.
  • If you're using a power strip or surge protector, try plugging the modem and Nest Wifi Pro directly into a wall outlet.

2. Restart Devices:

  • Unplug your Nest Wifi Pro and modem for 30 seconds, and then plug them back in.
  • Restart your smartphone or tablet running the Google Home app.

3. Update Google Home App:

  • Check for updates for the Google Home app in the App Store or Google Play Store.
  • Install any available updates, as they often contain bug fixes and compatibility improvements.

4. Try a Different Device:

  • If you have another smartphone or tablet, try setting up your Nest Wifi Pro using that device to rule out issues with your primary device. If you're using an iOS device, try an Android, too.

5. Reset Nest Wifi Pro:

  • If the above steps don't work, reset your Nest Wifi Pro to factory defaults using the reset button on the bottom of the device.
  • After the reset, start the setup process again in the Google Home app.

6. Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Ensure that your Nest Wifi Pro has the latest firmware installed.
  • The Google Home app usually prompts for updates automatically, but you can manually check for them in the app's settings.

Additional Tips:

  • Compatibility: Double-check that your modem is compatible with your Nest Wifi Pro. You can find a list of compatible modems on Google's website.
  • Network Settings: If you have any special network settings, such as VLANs or port forwarding, you might need to adjust them to work with your Nest Wifi Pro.

Specific to Error 14:

  • This error code often indicates issues with communication between the Nest Wifi Pro and the Google Home app. The above troubleshooting steps should help address these communication issues.

I hope this helps!

Thanks for helping, olavrb!

Best,

Dan

Hi Dan -

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried them all except using another device. I will try a second but still Iphone device this weekend, but I do not think this will solve the missing internet connection. I would prefer not to have to pay a network specialist to come and fix it - do you have more options that I can try?

Thanks all - it works, though not as intented as I had to connect the Nest WiFi Pro to the existing router. According to my ISP Google doe not allow for the nest Pro WiFi to be vlan tagged.

In case you're interested in options for ditching the ISP router:

VLAN support built in to Nest Wifi is very limited. Here is the official guidance:

https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9798157?hl=en

It supports some tags, but PPPoE combined with VLAN it does not seem to support at all.

A workaround is to use a managed/smart switch with VLAN tag support, put it between your ISP equiment and Nest Wifi, and make it untag VLAN before traffic hits Nest Wifi. More info on this:
