Import Nest x Yale lock to UK

Jeff_Fire
Community Member

The Nest x Yale lock is not available in the UK. If I import from the US will it function?

I have previously imported the ill-fated Harman Kardon Invoke Cortana speaker and that onkly worked if Coratana was set to US regions for instance.

Does anyone have any experience of the Nest x Yale lock working (or not) outside of the US?

Hi there, Jeff_Fire.

I am terribly sorry to hear that you have had the same issue with your devices. I know that when it comes to our cameras specifically, if they are purchased in the US and brought over to the UK, they will not generally work. It would generally be the same situation here. Please let me know if you need anything else of course, but I am afraid I cannot guarantee that you would or wouldn't have the same issues.

Best Regards,

Brad.

Google Nest devices are optimized to work best with specific Wi-Fi standards, depending on where they are sold and designed for. If you choose to export a device from a supported country to another country, you will receive no Google support, it may experience decreased performance, may not work as expected, and it may not comply with regulations in the country you've exported it to.

Of note, the 5 GHz band is regulated differently around the world. Nest devices manufactured for use in the USA use the 5 GHz channel in a way that is not allowed in the EU and UK. WiFi devices manufactured for use in the EU and UK use a different 5 GHz channel. This means you may experience issues during the setup.

That's really helpful thankyou. I understand then that it may not work and will not receive support, but it won't be prevented from working? E.g. The Google home app will let me try and set it up, even if ultimately it doesn't work?

There's no way for us to guarantee anything. The app may let you start the setup, but I've personally seen users run into errors when the device is not manufactured for the country they're trying to use it in.

It would be useful if you have anything to add?

I know we can import thermostats because of the voltage differences in European boilers, so we have the heat link. As described above I have experience of other US smarthome devices not be available for setup in the UK version of the app.

Does the 5ghz issue above mean that it won't be able to connect to my WiFi correctly? I have a couple of original US Google home speakers in my system and they work fine.

I would rather buy it in the UK but I have been waiting years for this to release!
