Nest Yale lock turning the wrong way

A day after successful installation my Nest Yale lock went offline. Numerous attempts to reconnect it to Nest Connect failed. I did a factory reset, after which the motor now turns the lock in the opposite direction. I've tried every different combination I can think of of starting position (bolt extended or retracted, thumb turn in different positions etc etc). In every case the lock goes the wrong way. I've tried it with the lock dismantled so I can see which way it is turning (to check its not just jamming against the door post).  In one manual I found online, in the advanced settings dialogue there are 5 advanced settings including one for "Handing" which looked promising. But invoking that routine on the keypad only brings up 3 options, none of which are for "Handing".

Even if and when I get that fixed how do I reconnect to Nest NadaConnect? It's three feet from the lock and 10 feet from one of two Nest mesh routers - in line of sight of both. And a Nest smoke alarm which helpfully goes green to show its trying to be of assistance in the hunt for connection. Any ideas on either of these problems gladly received. Use as paperweight may be my best option I fear.

Hi @NormanM,

Thanks for reaching out. Sorry to hear you're going through this with your Nest x Yale lock. Let's work together to figure out the issue you're experiencing.

It sounds like you've already tried troubleshooting some common causes for the lock not opening correctly.  Since you've done a great job narrowing things down, I recommend contacting Yale Support for this specific issue. They have access to more advanced settings and can provide more targeted troubleshooting steps for your Nest x Yale Lock model.

For the connectivity issue, you can refer to this guide: Nest × Yale Lock disconnected or offline.

Please let me know if you have any questions from here, as I would be happy to take a closer look and assist you further.

Cheers,

Jonathan

Yeah. You have to do a factory reset. Then make sure it’s installed in the door before you turn it on. When it’s turned on after a factory reset, it will try to open itself one way and then the other. Then it knows which way is blocked and sets itself to go in the other direction. Hope that helps.
