Nest x Yale Lock (Nest Connect problem)

I have a new YRD540 Nest/Yale lock.

First, I couldn't get the Nest Connect to connect to our home's new TP-Link Mesh Wifi using the app. Signal was great. 1 foot from the router. Tried different sockets/locations. Even reset the Connect. Keeps looping saying "There was a problem, couldn't connect."

So, I moved the Nest Connect to be within the range of our TP-Link Mesh extender (WIFI name ending in EXT). This is in a part of the house were I cannot actually use the device, but I wanted to see if it could connect to a different wifi network. Within moments, it connected successfully.

Then I took the Next Connect to its needed location (beyond the reach of the EXT wifi), but because it was already part of the EXT network I could not reconnect it to the original wifi. I therefore "removed the device from my home" using the app AND I did a factory reset of the Nest Connect to get the yellow light.

Now, when I try to start from scratch in the proper location, once I scan the bar code in the app, it jumps to asking me where in the house it will go (it still remembers the barcode/device even though it was removed from the app). So I tell it where, and then the app prompts me to run the connectivity test with the device unplugged. Of course, there is no connection, and I end up in another perpetual loop.

Pls help 🙂

Hi mdbk77,

I apologize for the delayed response and for the issues you are having with Nest Connect. No worries; I’m here to help. Let's take a look.

A few questions: are you using an iOS or Android device? How far is the Nest Connect from the router? Do you have any other devices that experience issues with Wi-Fi? Also, are there devices or appliances (such as baby monitors, microwaves, cordless phones, etc.) near the device you want to pair? Those devices could interfere with the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth signal.

Let’s try the troubleshooting steps below.

  1. Plug the Nest Connect into a power outlet.
  2. Press and hold the bottom button until the LED light turns yellow and then blue. This action should reset Nest Connect to factory defaults.
  3. After the factory reset, your device will appear as "Offline" in the Nest app until you remove it.
  4. To remove it from the app, open the app, then tap Settings > Select Nest Connect > Remove > Confirm.
  5. Make sure the phone is on the same Wi-Fi network as the selected network for the Nest device.
  6. Bluetooth should be enabled, but it should not be connected to any Bluetooth devices. Disconnect any Bluetooth devices paired to your phone, such as earbuds, smartwatches, etc.
  7. Cellular data should be turned off.
  8. If you have an iOS device, tap Settings > Privacy > Local Network and turn on Local Network Access for the Nest app.
  9. Start adding the device back to the Nest app.

More information here: Set up Nest Connect.

Best,

Lance
